IH-666-XHSib - 25oz Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo/Black

Thoughts on this fit? The top block is definitely more roomy than I was expecting, but maybe not a bad thing when they shrink? Do I keep getting the wrong cut/size or do these look right given the very stiff new fabric, eventual break-in, and shrink? These were also surprisingly easy to button compared to what I was expecting. I'll say the rear waist slides down a good bit when I sit, but maybe this too is also an issue only when new stiff fabric? The rear rise is spot on exactly what all my other jeans are that behave nicely when sitting/squatting/etc.

It depends on how you like it. The fit looks kind of Okay to me. That extra room on your thigh might shrink down by a tiny amount after a soak or a wash. If the waist is not sliding down when you sit or squat, it should be fine. If not give the smaller size a try and you will know it better.
Regarding the button, it was the same for me when it came new, it was relatively easy to button. I did a hot soak before I started to wear them. After the hot soak, the waist button was so stiff that I had to struggle to get it done.

Wear them, wash them, wear them, repeat a few times. No stiff jean is flattering, you need to get rid of the sizing agent, and have the denim soften and mould to your body. I know it is an expensive risk, and one you may not be prepared to take, but asking people to comment on fit, when the jeans are still super-stiff, with massive turn-ups, won't give you any meaningful feedback….

Sorry if I did something wrong here; would you like me to remove the picture and move the question to another thread?
I had seen similar pictures in the other XHS threads with the tags still on to try to help evaluate "the risk" as you put it. Bonus points came from those who then also posted post wash fit and measurements. Given these would be my first unwashed jeans I was looking for a little help. Right now, everything is on the roomy side. Somehow measurements that work in other jeans are different in IH. I know the waist will shrink and then stretch back past starting as required, but do you all think there's enough shrinkage elsewhere that will hold to be worth the risk of soaking and wearing today? Or should I look at a 555?

You posted in just the right place. At the end of the day, only you know how you like your jeans to fit. To me, that looks like a solid starting fit for XHS. If you can get them on and off easily, and the thigh doesn’t feel constricting, your break-in process will go a lot more smoothly. If you prefer your jeans tighter fitting, you can always size down, or try a different cut. But now that you’ve felt how beastly the XHS is, you can surely guess what a bear it is the break in a tight pair.

Nothing wrong at all. I'm just concerned that meaningful feedback is difficult. I know that I look completely shit in new jeans because they do not flatter until they have softened up and moulded to my body.

Thanks, Kasi and sabergirl.
Sizing down could be problematic depending on actual rise and thigh measurements. A size down in a 555-xhs appears closest to working, there they have a different concern of having enough room in shrunken knees/calves.
These are definitely easy to put on. If every dimension shrunk to the ~max reported in the XHS threads they'd probably be just about to my preference. Not looking for a tight fit but also not a sloppy fit either.
Guess I have some thinking to do and another look before deciding anything.
Edit
And thanks, Giles.
Definitely not after flattering comments, just the reality and collective wisdom of those with more experience. -
I say keep them. The 25 oz is going to soften and change after wear and wash. You don’t want to go smaller and risk them being too tight. Also, it’s unlikely these will be your only pair of IH jeans so stock your wardrobe with different cuts to suit your different moods. I’m sure you’d like to think you’ll only spend crazy money like this once but let’s be real with ourselves.

Day 3 of wearing these and a few observations. Unlike the 666 XHS, this one looks more contrast when paired with the 246-NIN shirt which I kind of like. The XHSiB also seems to be notorious for picking up dirt very easily. I had a patch of dust on the floor which my sweeping robot did not pick up and I happened to accidentally drop my XHSiB over than and it kind of took the most of what was on the floor onto it. I mean the fine particles. I was outside yesterday and had a Döner Kebap which I again accidentally let slip on my thigh, thereby causing a patch of stain. I managed to clean it though, but it still is visible.
Comfort wise, the waist, the rise on this guy is very slightly on the bigger side and it is very comfortable from day 1. I also have an observation that the back pockets on this one is a tad bit smaller compared to the XHS, reason being that my IH wallet kind of sinks deep in the XHS while on this one it sits a bit higher. Not a problem, but just my observation.

After the comments yesterday, a bit more thinking, measuring, and one last try on, I decided it was worth the risk. Soaked for ~45mins in my hottest tap water (maybe 40-50c?), a pea sized drop of soap, with a good amount of agitation at the beginning, mid, and end. Dumped the water and soaked again for another 30mins to rinse using the generally the same temp and a little more agitation.
Everything is definitely still generally comfortable. Wish the waist was a tad smaller, but I wear belts anyway. I'd have been in some discomfort if the rises shrunk too much more. My wife definitely laughed when she saw them standing up on their own. Proceeding to 'give em hell' as the forum advice stands.

@pechelman - that wash really helped the fit. it's always helpful for others to see measurements like you posted. i noticed the Darn Tough socks - love those; they're all i wear

Thanks, Hoppy! It's by no means a perfect fit to everyone, but is generally what I was going for with them. If they were a little narrower in the top block waist and hips, rise left alone, and thighs just a little trimmer and/or tapering sooner or slightly more to the knee it would be about right. Maybe that would be the old Beatle Busters that some folks want brought back?
I love darn toughs. Havent wont another sock since I first learned about them around 2013. Some of them are still that old, been through countless washes and miles, and some are only just now starting to show wear in the soles. They have a great unconditional warranty as well, but I'm very hesitant to use that for replacement….these definitely earned their all of their value.

Excellent choice, I absolutely love mine. They looked and fit odd for a day or 2 and then start d to morph around me . Give it some time and wear, it will show you why you bought them! And don't wash them for a while, I am super new to this but I would have them completely shaped to your body before you wash or soak again. I hope to see you around! Take Care

Nice socks too, @Ghost-Cut !
Three darn tough fans in as many posts.

Been wearing these for a week now after the soak and maybe it's in my head, but they seem to keep fitting better. I wouldnt mind the top block being a tad narrower, but not sure I could have tolerated a full size down.
Regardless, finally took them in to get hemmed and they left a little extra on them despite me telling them the exact length, but perhaps they're still alright? Should I go back and have them take more off? At most there's maybe .25-.5" left of shrink to happen, likely less, and I dont always wear boots. Also, don't mind the ridiculous pandemic hair.

Agree with previous answer, leave them as is. They look awesome
