RE: Viberg
Dirty,
I am also a US 12, and like Chris said I opted for the foot binding 10.5 UK size might be snug but I think with plain toe boots such as these (no toe cap to break up the length) it may work out better that way.

RE: Viberg
dirty, it's the first one:
it has a leather sole. the other two are vintage models from the wwII era for comparison purposes. you can read more about the boondocker here on horween's site if you are so inclined

RE: Cowboy boots
I think in general the style you're after would be considered a roper style boot (generally lower heels, rounder and roomier toe). The working ranchers I saw in Oklahoma all seemed to wear ropers. I think the Viberg and Wesco models you mentioned are aimed at that group of working cowboys as the toe is more of a fuller roper toe and the heel is lower than that usually associated with a cowboy boot.
That said, I like the RRL's. They appear to be well made and at the $250 price point they are attractive. Other opinions may differ but RRL is generally high quality. The RRL's appear to be rebuildable and they have a Vibram sole. Taking a quick look over at bootbarn, at that price you are really finding things at an equivalent range from 1883 Lucchese, Tony Lama, and usual suspects like Justin and Frye. I am by no means recommending those brands, I'm just saying that seems to be the comparable range at that pricepoint. As you will undoubtedly find out, Justin and Frye used to be reputable USA made brands but are now produced in mass quantities overseas; quality has suffered for it.
At the Viberg and Wesco pricepoint you could very well snag a custom pair from some of the great boot makers that gbougard and Chris highlighted a few pages back.

RE: Viberg
waxed cotton it is!
I think I'm the only one that thought this flat black waxed cotton would look great as well

RE: Viberg
Astrogoji, I think that the brown engineer boot you posted has the deconstructed toe that I'm particularly fond of. Superdenim have a 1950 Service Boot in that style. I think that Viberg take out the stiffening and other structure out of the boot, making it a lot softer.
I suspect that there might be a run on Merlot Engineers too…
I'm thinking about a pair of Hikers, probably a hybrid of the Four Horsemen City Hiker and the Chucs build with the square toe. So a deconstructed boot, without the insulation and fibreglass toebox, and with the completely ludicrous Portland sole.
Not sure about leather. The wax flesh is probably my favourite, but they look good in the Merlot too.
love the deconstructed toe on just about everything viberg puts out. really like the waxed flesh and it got me thinking how many other "secret" leathers there are in the viberg vault. if I'm not mistaken they primarily use two tanneries: the legendary horween and seidel tannery. Seidel seems to have some unusual offerings like the "aged bark" and "harness brown" as well as the more basic black oil tan and brown oil tan colors.
I've only seen one square toed viberg hiker before, are these the ones you mean?

RE: Viberg
Just to reiterate.
Once the current load of custom Vibergs are delivered to me, I will be doing another "Yep, I need some. Sign me up" call for orders.
I will be majoring on Service Boots next time, but as I am cheap, I'll probably say yes to anything…....
I like easy dates I think I'm going to have to run this idea by you Gilesy -

RE: Viberg
Pretty awesome that Brett replied to this thread–really have to appreciate that from a customer perspective. I also follow the Viberg blog and have found that anytime I had a quick question on a post, I received a reply. Thanks for that. I look forward to my next pair with you guys.
