RE: Parenting
No advice here, just a picture of me with my four kids from my 37th birthday last week. We were on vacation in the thousand islands, New York. Fwiw I will say I’ve felt tired for about 11 years now since my first was born.

RE: IRON HEART WAYWT - 2023 EDITION
New pair of John Lofgrens I got from Thon Maker (who is an excellent seller btw) and my 555 XHS. These boots are wildly comfortable right out of the box, super happy with them.

RE: Nick’s Boots of Spokane, Washington
I was looking for a pair of everyday boots and think I found them with these Nick’s Falcon boots. These are my first pair of Nick’s. I bought these as ready to ship so they only took about a week to arrive. Before these, I had a pair of White’s MP Sherman service boots, which I really like but were a little too nice for daily wear. I have Viberg 2030 service boots, which look great with dress pants, but again a little too fancy for everyday wear. These Falcons are a little more casual, but nicer than my actual work boots so they fit what I was looking for. These are their brown chromexcel. Initial impression from the box is everything looked good, each boot is almost identical, and they are a nice heavy boot. They fit just like my White’s did in size 9D. They’ll need some breaking in, will post more pictures as they get some wear.

RE: IHSH-361-BLK - 16oz Non-Selvedge Denim Western Shirt - Superblack (Fades To Grey)
I’m 5’8” with a larger chest, I ended up going with a large, but it is a little tight. I tried an XL but the sleeves and body were way too long. I stick by my initial thoughts when I saw the measurements that this is a tall and skinny guy shirt. The denim is super nice, I plan to wear this a lot this fall/winter.

A little more wear on my mp’s, starting to look better as they darken imo

RE: IH-666-XHSib - 25oz Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo/Black
I was going to wait til this fall to start wearing these, but I was itching to start working on a new pair and figured what’s the point of them just sitting on the shelf.
I picked these up in basically new/unwashed condition, but second hand. I needed to get them hemmed, and figured while they were at Williamsburg garment have them taper the leg since I prefer a slight taper. Also wanted to try this service out since I hadn’t done taper service before. I requested they set the knee at 11” (instead of 13”) since that’s where the back of my knee is (I’m 5’ 8”). I asked for the taper to go from the existing width of 9.5” to 8” at the hem, and 30” inseam. The stock hem was 9”. They nailed the measurements.
I wanted to give these a hot soak before I started wearing them. I had worn these a couple times so far for short periods, so wanted to get them a couple more wears before the soak. I wore them around the house, then wore them for a couple hours while mowing. I figured hopping on and off the zero turn would exercise them a bit before the soak:
Just before soaking, took measurements and pictures. You can see the inseam alteration below.
A closeup for good measure:
Then in the kids tub they went at about 100F/40C for an hour, with some denim wash and hand agitation. Gave them a cold rinse then hung up to dry outside. When they were nearly dry, I put them on and put them through some paces. I get scared they will shrink too much so I try to stretch them right back out.
After a day of wear, the hot wash didn’t cause much shrinkage. In total it was a quarter inch on the hem and inseam, and that was it. I expect I’ll get more shrinkage over time. Measurements and fit pics:
Original / altered / hot soak
Waist 17.5” / x / 17.5”
Front rise: 11” / x / 10.75”
Rear rise: 15.5” / x / 15.5”
Thigh: 12.25” / x / 12.25
Knee: 9.25” / 9.25” / 9.25”
Knee @ 11”: 9.5” / 9.5” / 9.5
Hem: 9” / 8” / 7.75”
Inseam: 35” / 30” / 29.75” -
RE: Nick’s Boots of Spokane, Washington
I treated these with boot oil to help break in and I’ve worn them a few more times. So far real happy with them.
