RE: IH-777-XHSib - 25oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Indigo/Black
Hi All - was hoping for a little bit of advise in sizing this denim.
I have the 555-21oD in size 32. Pre-wear waist for the jean is 32.6’.
Button was not too difficult up front. Knee is quite tight initially. After 3 months of wearing the 555 has now loosen up.
Not so good news is the waist has also stretched, to the point that I can put a whole hand in my pants without undoing the buttons :D.
Day to day it’s fine, I will wear a belt. When I don’t wear a belt, the 555 drops a bit low.Back to these jean, would I get away with a size 31? Should I soak these before I wear? If I soak, Will size 31 shrink too much to the point that I won’t be able to put it on?
Sorry for the silly question…

RE: IHSH-253-BRN - 11oz Cordura® Satin Work Shirt - Brown
I generally wear S in IH shirts (or M in UHFs). I got this in XS and it works well. To be honest if an XXS existed it would also have worked. XS is perfect with a t-shirt underneath, and also works fine without.
Very cool piece. Didn't realize it would be so soft and comfortable. Feels like a shirt I want to break-in almost like denim. Super practical piece.
Nice. I’m a M in IH Western…like you, I can see S would work, and XS might even fit better.
Now I need to decide between this and 2 other new pieces I have my eye on in the coming months...

RE: IHSH-253-BRN - 11oz Cordura® Satin Work Shirt - Brown
@dj:
It’s arrived. Considering I was looking for a cotton duck cpo shirt this summer it’s perfect - actually better because the fabric feels soft.
Very pleased.
Fit pic, please? Did you order your usual size or did you size down?

and I blinked, all XS gone

RE: IHSH-253-BRN - 11oz Cordura® Satin Work Shirt - Brown
The sleeve length in XS looks longer than that in S?
I'm normally a M in IH - but given the workshirt and this being an overshirt…might even get away with XS as a normal shirt...

RE: IH-526J-142ib - 14oz Selvedge Denim Modified Type III Jacket - Indigo/Black
You know you are a IH fan when you immediately scroll down to try and find the measurement chart..
It's coming, watch this space.
I've been trying to work out what makes this so amazing, and it's the stitching… great choice.
I also think it might the twisted yarn construction. I'm in love with my 21oz and there almost seems to be some 'drape' to this denim? Probably just my eyes doing tricks after staring at this like a kid waiting for his lollipop

RE: IHSH-76 - 17oz Indigo Selvedge Denim Shirt/Jacket
The denim CPOs started with the IHD-01 and the OF version. The 76 (this shirt) was a follow up that stayed a little closer to the bounds of a traditional
IH western.Short answer: this is a CPO. In H-Sans planning, if it has pockets, but isn’t technically a jacket, it’s a CPO.
Hope that helps!

It does mate, thank you. I need to get my hands on one of these bad boys, one day.

RE: IHSH-76 - 17oz Indigo Selvedge Denim Shirt/Jacket
just a newbie question, is there technically any difference between this shirt and an IH 'CPO'?

Yes it is, and Graham even teased me further with this closeup…
The wait is excruciating!

RE: 21oz Shinayaka Selvedge Denim
I know the answer is probably ‘we don’t know’…but any idea how the stretch denim will fade?
Traditional wisdom says stretch denim creates less of a crease so the fade may be a bit more subdue...

Giles - an crazy idea, any thought to write a book in the future? This sort of anecdotal exchanges, between yourself and Haraki san, is what drew me to IH initially. A (otherwise) unlikely partnership that somehow brings the best of both worlds…would love to hear more if possible.
The idea to write a brand history occurred to me a while back… one day I’ll do it. Great excuse to go to Japan. And Gosport. Of course going to Gosport without an good reason is grounds for being sectioned.
When's the next brand anniversary? 20th? 30th? I think it would be fun to make this into an anniversary project, and research should start now :D. There you go @neph93 I've found a reason for you.

RE: 21oz Shinayaka Selvedge Denim
This is one of my favourites…
A couple of months prior, I'd asked Haraki to make the indigo/indigo 18oz denim. We were in Bangkok for the Pronto Denum Carnival, and were in the hotel restaurant on the first night.
Haraki - "Ive made the new denim you asked for"
Giles - "Wow, great. What's it like"
Haraki - "Well, I think you'll like it"A couple of years later he decided he liked it too, and released it in Japan…
I'm going to guess H-san actually liked it from the get go, but thought he would wait a few years and hoped that you won't notice…
-
RE: 21oz Shinayaka Selvedge Denim
Let me elaborate.
Haraki has been developing this new denim for 3 years. Until he had got the amount of flex he was looking for and the look and feel of our signature 21oz indigo selvedge denim, he just kept on trying.
So please be open minded about it, we are not selling out.
As one of the newer IH fans, I absolutely do not see this as selling out. Most top-tier Japanese brands already have stretch denim. The truth is H-san could have rolled out any odd stretch denim out there, slap the IH brand on, stuff enough material to make sure it's 21oz+ (so it can be called 'heavyweight') and I'm pretty sure those jeans will fly out the door. IH could have made some fast money if it wanted to, but the fact that H-san spent 3 years developing his own version of IH-stretch gives me confidence that this will be one of the best stretch denim out there. It may not suite everyone, each to their own. But I've certainly got this pencil down for 2021

RE: 21oz Shinayaka Selvedge Denim
I just remembered another thing. When H told me what he was doing, I said that I'd rather he worked on getting the 21oz superblack selvedge made. He gave he a withering look, and said in a very polite Japanese sort of way, words to the effect, "anyone can make something the've done before, and I can do that for you if you want it, but I get the most satisfaction and joy by doing something new"
He really dislikes the IH 1955 cut. He makes it begrudgingly for us because he knows it fills a gap, but asking him to make something that has been made before gives him zero creative buzz…..

RE: IH-NO-LOT - 21oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Cut Jeans - Overdyed Black
Just adding my $.02.
Got my 555-21OD delivered 2 weeks ago (my 1st IH ever), so I’ve been breaking that down and it’s now very soft. Despite the COVID/work-from-home lockdown in Australia, I have been wearing them every day, non-stop, to the point that my wife is convinced that I am sneaking out of the house when she’s not looking. If only my life is actually that exciting at the moment (to have a reason to sneak out for)….
Despite that, I have since learnt that the the 555 is just a little tight for me in the thigh/knee. E.g. I can’t really lift my knee up much higher above my waist. It’s not a major problem from a daily wear perspective (unless your job is a movie stuntman, eg), but it does restrict some of the more drastic movements.
Looking at the measurement of the no-lot, this would have actually been quite perfect for me. Very much the ‘lifter’s cut’. I guess the ‘aggressive taper’, as described in the product overview, is really describing the shaping between a fairly generous knee measurement (~8.5 in my size) to a average-hem opening (7.2), whilst not necessarily a ‘narrow opening’ (<7).
I would add that, going from 8.5 to <7, would certainly be very aggressive, even more than then Momotaro/PBj/Tanuki that I do own. I actually own a pair of Oni that has a <6 opening (worn out: once). My younger work colleagues have also been kind enough to educate me, recently, that they have stopped looking for that narrow opening and are now much more seeking the 90’s relaxed jean look. That, of cos, is not for me to pass judgement on, as this is very much a personal choice.
Looking back, the no-lot was freshly launched when I ordered the 555. I did recall considering it, but strangely did not pursue. The lack of available fit-pic (apart from model pic) might have been a reason. Another reason might be the fact that I’m a shorter guy, and my plan is very much looking to hem my purchase to ~28’ once broken in. This might have also been a deterrent - as the hem opening would most likely be around the ~7.5 mark at that length. Of cos this is doable, but I remember reasoning with myself to go with the 555, as one do not want to mess with the cut too much. Finally, as a fairly new customer to IH, I guess I wanted to go with a ‘known’ jean model (555), perhaps that somehow gave me more confidence it would be a good purchase (and it is! My karate high kick days are conveniently behind me, so honestly the tighter thigh cut is fine by me).
The 21oz is an amazing fabric (What took me so long to find IH?) - for those considering this cut, I’m sure it will work out just fine!

RE: IHSW-34 -12oz Heavyweight Loopwheel Fleece Lined Sweater - Grey Marl or Mint Gre
Hi - if I’m a size Medium generally, should I size down for this? The chest looks quite generous but the shoulder looks like a typical M dimension…
Depends on your height and what you take M in. I took an XL in this and I wear XL in shirts. I couldn't have gone down a size because it would have been way too short. I recommend checking length.
Thanks @neph93. Basically shoulder, length are both perfect. Sleeve is slightly long…but it’s IH so that’s to be expected. The chest is about an inch wider than my usual but I think that’s just the relaxed cut...prob the only thing I wasn’t sure about....
