@AdamJ 14 and 21?
Is it possible to make a UHR denim in black?
@bluemantra , this pair started at 14.5 inches and after the hot wash they are now 13.5 in the thigh (measured the IH way). So about an inch. My overall fit is a bit on the loose side (I could fit a size smaller), but this is what I prefer, which means I tend not to stress stretch much at all. I hope this helps.
Post Wash Update
This is my second pair of UHR---the first were 777 some years ago and they are pretty much perfect in fit and patina. I wanted then as I did now to get all the shrink and stuff out of them from the first, if that's possible. I washed them on the shortest hot cycle without a spin rinse and hung them dry. They shrank one full inch in the waist and two full inches in the inseam. I'm delighted with the result and it's just as expected. There was no marbling or untoward consequences to washing rather than soaking, so it seems. I hope this helps, but I'd just say that (as usual) Iron Heart's declarations regarding size and care are spot on. What IH said would happen is exactly how they turned out. I'm going to wear the crap outta' them now.
I've had one of those When It Rains, It Pours weeks now. I missed the previous run and have regretted it since. So this restock and then the new 16oz OD, I had to score both. 634 is my cut though I love'm all (though 555 I regard as good for other people). I'm at the age where I feel confident these jeans will out live me. That's not a bad thing. Photos to follow.
Not everyday is the juice worth the squeeze but with UHR you can put that idea to work. I'm going to shrink these bad boys, put 'em on damp, and squeeze them into fit goodness. Thanks for the restock. I scored mine this morning.
I will get over that I like pockets because this piece is just too extraordinary to pass by. My birthday is this week, as if I need an excuse. I may even get to Vahalla if I die wearing this---how could Odin deny me if I promise to lend it to him.
I think @Fadez nails it here: a CPO has hand warmers, does it not? So this is more like a heavier wool shirt, which is perfectly lovely, downright brilliant but not exactly a CPO as I see it. There's an old saw in the 19th century Royal Navy about leaving the pockets off the midshipmen's jackets so that they can't stand around at their leisure when they should be attentive. (You might recall a very young midshipman in the Master and Commander movie blowing on his cold hands, a nod to this tradition.)
No hand warmers? I will quote Scripture in this case: "And he wept..."
I don't know if the little video above (I tried to delete considering the size) will open. But it offers a good look at the jeans, the UHF, and the Rover.
@Oaktavia Dang, those are downright heroic. I can only aspire.
@goosehd Aww, thanks. that's my 1972 Series III. Runs like a charm. Far better than I do.
I sealed final grades for my University students today and wore the 777-XHS to celebrate with body armour.
This is my second pair, a refresh. I take a picture with my originals that took, you know, six years to fade (even a little).
I have a clothes steamer that I use for wool and suits---and 25oz 634s. I steam and then give them a gentle wipe with a towel. When they're dirty for reals, wash'em. Fades are stubborn but I take that as a very good thing, I'm in no hurry.
When I saw today in my email that XHS had been restocked I was so stoked I very nearly purchased (by accident) the 666 misreading it for 634. I tell ya', Iron Heart does that to me. I need to refresh my XHS but I'm very much a 634 kinda' guy---and at my age you'd think prudent, carefully looking at the details. But noooooo, I see XHS and nearly pull the trigger when...634 isn't here yet. I may not sleep for a week now, I'll just be refreshing the browser until I see the 634XHS restock. I doubt I'm the only one this possessed.
@Kasi I have to say that my CPOs get so much more use than I anticipated when I first started on the journey. I have been using the OD version of this shirt for years and I reach for it again and again. We too get plenty of horrible weather---about seven months of cold weather here in western New York---and the CPO gets the call. I've been debating this one and the upcoming Dobby and I'm trying to rationalize both. They will get used and as you know, Iron Heart is like that.
It's been awhile since I've written on the Forum (but nothing dulls my love and admiration for Iron Heart). Anyways, when I first saw the picture of this 21 tote, I didn't see the 21. My day job is Professor and one of the languages I teach is classical Tibetan. This 21 bears a striking resemblance to the Tibetan letter "l". My example here in the picture is a bit dull but in more stylized writing it looks so much like this 21 I did a double take. Merry merry to you all.
Will we have IH Crew fits to help with sizing? Nothing helps me more than hearing how the stubborn crew fits.
