First World Problems

Jacket will still be awesome long after the console is in a landfill.
-
Never mind Chief Sugar Tits, i’ve sent you some snacks from the culinary waste land that is England for you to actually have something to moan about
-
Feels pretty first world to me! The ships of yore survived on hard tac and rum. I have an espresso machine in my office, and eat whatever the heck I want. Sadly, alcohol isn't allowed onboard.
Thank you! And that's Senior Chief, for those of you following along at home
The Royal Navy Gave a ration of rum up u til the 1970’s I believe. 73 maybe… that’s awesome. . that’s like yesterday.
But no booze has gotta be miserable. Not hard to make though... -
here's my first world problem. do I buy:
PS4 slim
or
SEXIH07IIIBK modified od type3 from Self Edge?
Of course, I want both but arguments could be made for either. The PS4 would be nice to have for those days when I don't have my son with me, and it's been a long time since i've had a new console. The downside is that I don't want my son asking me what it is and getting sucked into video games at his age (he's 4.5 yo).
Likewise, i've been wanting a modified od type3 since I saw the bsp 14oz version at SE but their new 18oz od type3 looks amazing. The downside to the SEXIH07IIIBK is that I wouldn't be able to wear it for 3-4 months.
Tough one. I would probably go with the jacket.

Dammit, my bad Senior Chief!
Hehe, it's okay. I'm still a dumbass, no matter how high up the ranks I climb.

British food? Gross. Can't wait!
@seul Yup. that's about how I feel right now. After our last port call it took me a few days to dry out though.
I’m going to read all of Snr. Chief Seawolf’s posts in a slow stutter from now on as an expression of solidarity.
One thing that's nice is that I usually have internet access though because of my rank. I guess somebody thinks I'm important. I've got those tossers fooled, but I'm not saying a word
What I want to know is: are there Junior Chiefs?
Yes, we just call them "Chief." It goes Chief, Senior Chief, then Master Chief. Senior Chief is cool because people just call me "Senior."

But no booze has gotta be miserable. Not hard to make though...We gave up booze a long time ago, and at the time the Secretary of the Navy was named Joe something-something, and they used to say that the strongest thing we were allowed to drink on a ship was coffee, and it was dubbed "a cup of Joe."

It's not that glamorous, but perhaps when I get some time I can jot down a few notes. It's hard to capture what a Chief in the Navy does, but it's a pretty unique job.

The only times we're allowed to wear what we want are when we're working out, or sleeping. Other that that, it's uniforms all the time. Most of us wear 1-piece coveralls which are like pajamas. I'm authorized to wear a submarine sweater if I get cold. Google army 5-button sweater to see what I'm talking about. Submariners have been wearing these since WWI. I do wear IH almost exclusively in-port though. It's great travel gear.

I could have brought my leather onboard, but it takes up too much space, and there are thieves onboard, and (sadly) I don't trust anyone around my tools/leather. Also, by the end of the day, I just want to get in the rack (bed) and watch a movie or read for a little while. I wake up at 3am to work out, so I'm usually in bed with the lights out by 7:30.

So when you get promoted, will they call you Master?
-
I asked that same question when I was a young lad, to a Master Chief, and he quickly (and sternly) corrected me and said, "No, it's Master Chief."
whoops!
…there are thieves onboard.....
In the Army, we say "There's only 1 thief in the Army… Everyone else is just trying to get their shit back!"
We had a thief on the submarine I served on. He's lucky we didn't kill him when he got caught. Submarines don't have any room for thieves.

so how do you guys root out the thieves? I would think that being on a ship and in the military something like this wouldn't happen. that really sucks

There are over 5,000 people on this ship, and ample places to hide things. It's near impossible to find a thief. They did catch a guy that transferred money to his account from two other people's accounts (shipboard cash card system) to the tune of almost $800. He got caught, and he was dealt with swiftly and harshly, but that's rare. People that steal small items don't generally get caught. It sucks. I hate that I can't leave something laying around.

shocked and amazed. do you share quarters with another shipmate or are you lucky enough to have your own space due to your rank? I'm not sure how living arrangements are in the Navy, especially on a ship. I only know that when my brother was in the Air Force he had a roommate in the barracks until he got married.
