The (Less intimidating) Watch Thread
-
Found my old "Speedy" in my actual Speedy's box. This was a great watch, loved the alarm back in those pre smarphone times.
-
What a nice looking cuff!!
-
Yep, the IHSH-165 is a beautiful shirt.
The Maya looks nice, too. Better than I remember it looking, in fact.
-
Having umm’ed and ahh’ed over which watch to buy on this thread for about 9 months I’m ready to give up on the project and resign myself to being watchless. The reason for this is that having finally got together some watch money I found that watch money roughly equates to Good Art pimped shirt money and I’m shite at prioritising [emoji15]

It's a nice watch. The drawbacks are: it's on the chunky side, the straps are held with screw bars, the bezel insert is probably aluminum. On the other hand, the case and bezel are nearly unscratchable & the face is super readable.

^ looking forward to seeing that. It’s on my list for sure.
I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be an everyday watch, so I didn't want to spend more than about £400, so with the discount I think this is a bargain. I really wanted a mechanical watch too to fit with my sensibilities. I think I'll swap out the strap for a NATO band and have found some tasty looking mil-spec + versions that are on my list!
@neph93 well I hear it's waiting for me when we get home at the weekend. I'm excited.
But you are no longer in the market for a wrist watch? I'm lost without a watch. In this age of smart phones and functionally many people considering traditional watches being all but obsolete, I've gone back to full mechanical.
I'm also upgrading my android Samsung phone to a Nokia 3310. I'm done with this damn phone trying to run my life

@Stuart.T about seven years ago my wife bought me a watch (not one I would have chosen myself) and I quite enjoyed wearing it but that was the first time I’d had one on since I was a teenager. I’ve always enjoyed jewellery but haven’t felt watched have played that role until now.
However while I like the idea of wearing a watch as jewellery, it will only ever be a trinket and therefore all the planned purchases are easily pushed aside by other fancies such as Good Art pimped IHSH-33’s. At the end of the day if I get £400 of play money and weigh up a nice Seiko or Hamilton against a Big Eye clip, a Club Ring or four or five more silver snaps on my shirt then the Hollywood silver is going to win. Because I’m a big tart. So I’m giving up watch shopping as a lost cause.
-
@neph93 I can completely understand that. As you can see from most of my pics I wear a lot of silver jewellery. I always favour Crazy Pig Designs of London as they have a lot of sentiment to me….actually considering my next purchase soon!

@neph93 here we go…
Only just wound for the first time this morning. For £241 brand new I'm very pleased.

Beautiful @Stuart.T looks prettier, cleaner and more refined there than it does in the product pics around the web. Thanks very much and well done. I may have to check my priorities after all.
I'll take a pic later next to my Seiko for comparison. This is a much thinner watch and the strap is 20mm. That suits me just fine for winter as it sits under cuffs really nicely as you can see from my pic it's hard to imagine a much better quality mechanical watch at this price, but I don't purport to be an expert. I was going to get a NATO strap for it but the more I read online about the damage they can cause the less inclined I am. I like this strap too…
-
What damage? I've been using NATOs for years and I haven't noticed anything.
I've seen pics of pins being quite badly bent when natos have been used on watches where there pins don't lock (as they do on my seiko). I know that Zuludiver provide a set of there own pins when you buy one of their straps. Have you had any experience of their products @DougNg ? I'm interested to learn of other experiences. Thanks in advance.

I've never had a problem. It has never occurred to me to worry about it, springbars are cheap.
And I would really prefer a springbar failure over a pin that locks in place. A pin that's locked up will eventually rip out the hole in the lug if you apply force to it.
$3 part vs expensive repair (if can be fixed at all)

I’ve had this watch for the last few months and can personally attest it’s tough as shit. Couple hundred miles running, three rock climbing sessions, three weeks of travel, two rifle training sessions (which include runnning/climbing/hitting the dirt/slamming into things) and 7k rounds of ammo (around 2k at the courses and another five of practice) downrange and it’s doing just fine. I put on a glass screen protector so I never worry about damaging the crystal.

I need a G Shock. Thank you for the recommendation

I can’t find my g shock. I’m sick to my stomach. Fucking love that thing. ReAlly hope It turns up.
