Random Rants

The WAYWT thread diverts a lot of attention to product-specific threads and embedded fit pics. I detest the notion of double- or cross-posting, so it's typically one or the other.
One forum enhancement that could help would be product tags that function similarly to user tags, with auto-completion. These would be searchable so that users could easily see all posts with a given product tag with a simple query.
Imagine being able to tag your WAYWT post with @IHSH-87, etc, and for those tags to either link to the product thread or to a search for all instances of a tag as described above.

You’re right in everything you say.
As to your tagging suggestion I brought this up with @Giles about a year ago and he put me in touch with his web people. We had a solid exchange of ideas about it. The issue is that the forum runs on a platform that is quite straightforward and the kind of tagging we’re talking about (Instagram/Twitter level) takes a god-like amount of processing and programming power.

Yes!

Here's a hack though: actually use user accounts for the tags. You can search for posts by tag ("@username") so it would be easy find tagged posts. Clicking the tag would take you to the account page of the "user" and from there you could see all "their" posts, which could include the original posting of the product.
I understand the level of operational overhead may be unpalatable, but this would work.

I occasionally double post in WAYWT for exactly @neph93 concern about original item threads being under used. It doesn't bother me too much.
Maybe I/we all should give more thought about the need for a WAYWT thread at all. Validation addiction is a hell of a thing.

But if no one sees my outfit…am I really wearing it?

I'm such a curmudgeon. Ever since my son started kindergarten it seems like a birthday party is being thrown every other week by his classmates' parents, so invitations are always being extended by parents I don't know and have never met. Of course, my son will always want to go to these parties and i'd feel like an a-hole if I didn't oblige, at the same time, this is my weekend with my son so i'm feeling selfish and would rather we spend time doing our own thing together rather than going to his classmate's bday party (who he got into a fight with btw). The only upside to his classmate's party is that I can drop my son off for an hour or two and come back to pick him up if I choose to.

What if he came home from school the next day and kids had asked him why he wasn't there, and that caused him to feel bad,or left out or something? Then you're on the hot seat unless you OK it with him up front. At some point you might be having a Bday party for him and you'll want the other kids parents to reciprocate. My son is fast approaching 25 and it seems like those days were a lifetime ago. Good luck.

I'll be going but I heard from the mom that there will only be 2-3 other kids. However, I'll drop my son off and they can chaperone while i'm out running errands. Also, since we're in a split household my son knows that he gets multiple parties with me, his mom and both grandparents, which puts us in a unique situation. When I celebrate his bday it's just me and him. When he celebrates his bday with his mom it's with his friends from his neighborhood of which there are probably 8-10 kids plus his friends from when he was in daycare.

WAYWT has been central to this forum and to net based fashion/clothing communities since these things came into existence so I don't think it will be going anywhere. The reasons people use it are many and seeking validation (which is a legitimate human behaviour, psychologically speaking) may well be one, for some. Obviously anything taken to extremes is unhealthy.
I've thought about x-posting more myself. It's something I try to avoid but I think that if it keeps product threads relevant then it's probably a good thing on balance.

Double posting does not bother me at all (if used sensibly).
There will be people who only look at certain threads. So only posting in WAYWT may mean great product images are missed.
Getting some more visual content in the product threads is central to my original idea of linking the product page to the relevant forum thread, so potential customers could see how things looked like in real life…

All the photography that people, take the time to do,regardless of their motivation, has been incredibly helpful to me when it comes time to pull the trigger on an item that I might be on the fence about,or had previously not even considered. I really appreciate it and when I can try to return the favor.

Agree. There are product threads I pay no attention to but I do look at the WAYWT daily because this is likely where most people will post.

Heading to Upstate NY this weekend for an old friends wedding. While I'm looking forward to seeing my old college friends, I tend to be a shit magnet and attract every dipshit in the room that feels the need to drop an asinine comment on some aspect of my being or offer unsolicited advice on a topic they have no subject matter expertise.
Thank God Jody will be there to run interference or I'd strangle someone. -

I wish I were eloquent enough to just quote a movie
Hour 1: passive aggressive sarcasm
"How have I made it though life this far without your unsolicited advice?"
Hour 2: actively aggressive analogies
"Your life must be like watching porn in slow motion, what's usually a normal event is now an awkward boner"
Hour 3: just being mean
"Your voice is like listening to a leaky anus"
Which is why Jody doesn't let me to go to social events alone.

Maybe there would be a way for WAYWT post tagged with a IH product (say @IHSH-76 for example) to automatically be posted in the relevant product thread…
OR
Is there a way to post in 2+ threads in one time?
I think I mentioned this earlier but the tagging option has been discussed and at least superficially explored. The problem is that the forum runs on a relatively simple, straightforward platform and the processing power and programming required to tag and cross-reference effectively is still quite high end. This is why we only see it working well on the major social media platforms like IG and Twitter.
I suspect the automatic double posting, while simpler, would also require a higher level of functionality than is current workable on the forum engine.

In addition, multi-thread auto posting would probably piss off a lot of members, perhaps more members than it would satisfy.
