Iron Heart Products - What do you think we should make?
-
This is more of an enhancement than new product. Wish Type IIs would have handwarmer pockets added. If Oni, tanuki, TCB and other brands can make it look good, I have no doubt IH could. Type IIIs didn’t have them originally either but we see how many in the IH roster now do.

I am wearing my new shorts for the 1st time today. (They are fantastic) but I gotta say how nice it is to have a zipper.
It's great having a zipper.
So, I really wish you guys would make some kind of relaxed fit SELVEDGE jean with a zipper. Can be 21 oz, 21 oz lefty, UHR, or 25 XHS (would be my number 1 pick) in maybe a 1955, 634, or 888 cut. I know you have the 21 oz non-selvedge pair. But I really want something that is authentically Iron Heart denim.Forgot to say please and thank you!

I support this idea. Please add me to the list of buyers. A pair of 21oz or 25oz relaxed fit selvedge jeans with a zipper in either 1955 or 888 cut would be awesome if the zippers are durable with that kind of a heavyweight pair of jeans. I'd love my tag size (W28 or W29, depends on the cut) to be available as well if this idea should become reality.
Generally I just fully stand behind the idea of relaxed fit cuts. Unfortunately there isn't much to choose from for me if I want a medium-high rise, wide thighs and still a slim silhouette. Most of the jeans available are meant for the slimmer/ skinnier guys and I understand that there is apparently not much demand for the kind of jeans I'd like to have. Nevertheless, this is what I think could be made.
The 888 is apparently exactly that but unfortunately it's not available in my tag size/ waist width. Therefore, I'm also still very much hoping to be able to get a pair of 888S in tag size W28 some time in the near future even though there are no plans for it yet.

I'll have to second that, @Filthy . I love the zip on my 822. I love my 822. I will be wanting another pair at some point. Any idea if they'll ever get made again?

Thanks guys. I have been asking for a pair of XHS with a zipper for years now.

I’d buy original 25 oz 888 with or without a zipper. Though I would also prefer zipper

Is there a reason most of IH denim has buttons over zippers? Cost? Difficulty? Historical accuracy?
I've gotten used to it so I don't mind either way. Just curious.
I would assume historical accuracy. I prefer buttons on my denim

Iron Heart is all about functionality and buttons allow for more flexibility to achieve a desired fit on bottoms. While I loved the chunky Talon zipper on my old 707 chinos, buttons are still the way to go when it comes to denim.
this is why I said relaxed fit. And there's like 300 other different pairs to choose from that have buttons already.

To be exact, 76 different pairs (denim or non-denim) with buttons and 11 pairs with zippers to choose from If the website's filtering function is accurate, that is.
And amongst the ones that do have a zipper, either the thigh width or the front rise is too small for me.

There are probably a few reasons but the only one that really matters is that Haraki-san wants it that way.
Otherwise I’d surmise that Levi’s having been the main design blueprint for most Japanese brands, and Levi’s being traditionally a button fly brand is a major factor.
Historical accuracy, for its own sake, is of little importance to Iron Heart in general, when compared to RMC amongst others.

I'm probably missing something but I don't understand this…

zippers always manage to come partially undone for me. Even the ones that fold down and lock seem to unzip halfway depending how I'm sitting. I love the convenience of zips but buttons stay buttoned for me, so I prefer them.

I also like the button fades on denim, which isn't something you get with zippers

More fade potential, that sounds right.
