Hi,
My name is David, although my username is DaveR and I’m new here.ATM I’ve no Iron Heart jeans but I’m thinking of getting a pair of IH 555’s either 21oz or 25oz.
My age is 58, waist atm is 32” and inside leg 29.5”.
Now I realise for an older person a looser fit is recommended, but for my height ( 5’6” ) and build I believe a slim fit which the IH 555 is should look good on me.I’m from and live in Castleford, West Yorkshire so have no problems getting to Rivet & Hide shop in Manchester.
Before I visit R&H though may I ask if anyone has thoughts on IH 555’s in those two weights, or should I be thinking of a lighter denim and looser fit, thanks.

@DaveR Hello and welcome.
The 21oz and 25oz denims are very different apart from the weight. The 25oz should be soaked as there is a little shrinkage left in the denim. It is denser than the 21oz as well as heavier, it is stiffer and takes some commitment to break in. It ages differently also. Despite the fuss it is a very rewarding denim.
The 21oz is much easier to get on with straight out of the bag. It is soft, heavy and has a loose weave making it relatively comfortable straight away. There is no meaningful shrinkage to be had. You should be aware that while all denim will relax and stretch out with wear and usage, the 21oz has the potential to stretch quite a lot in the waistband and thigh. I’m sure the guys at R&H will let you know, but you may want to take this into account when trying them on.

Hello, thank you to the IH team for the add. I'm John and have recently made my first IH purchase.
I'm from UK, living in the middle east, working where ever the company sends me. I grew up in Wranglers, as the factory was only a 20 minute bus ride away , the Levi's factory was 3 buses and in the next county, made Levi's very exotic…
My IH Jean's arrived on the 11th July and today was my 10th day of wear.
I'm brand new to this denim head habit, decided to give it a go.
A day of wear, I have decided needs to be minimum 10 hours or it doesn't count and won't include it in the wear history.
Finding it a real challenge, to stop myself throwing them in the wash after each wear.
I have been lurking on this forum for some time and have enjoyed reading a lot of the posts and if I'm lucky, I hope to be a contributor in the future.

@JPW welcome and thanks for the great intro. Congratulations on the jeans, what did you go for?
You can do as you wish of course, but I believe some of the denim competitions use eight hours as the minimum needed to constitute a day’s wear. Using 10 just makes you a badass though [emoji1]

Hi all, new forum member here. I found Iron Heart looking for heavy flannels and fell in love with the UHF's. This lead me down the heavy denim rabbit hole too and I purchased a used/new pair of IH-634-XHS and guess what… I love them too. So thank you Iron Heart my wallet has never been lighter

Welcome @SEAK Kid Thanks for the intro… You are not the first to get into the rabbit hole that way. Great first purchases. As for your light wallet, you're not in trouble until you actually have to sell the wallet

Been lurking for a while, finally have a couple questions to ask.
I’m not a big fan of high contrast fades, so I prefer to do hot washes — and dry, if possible — every 3-4 weeks. I know the 21 oz doesn’t shrink much if you’re careful, but what if you’re like me, and regularly hit it with hot water washing machine washes? Any suggestions on what I could expect?
Same for the 21 oz OD. Does it behave any differently with lots of washes?
Tips on avoiding marbling? I find some denim marbles easily in the dryer, and others don’t. Thoughts on how to safely use a dryer with this denim?
Thanks,
JT -

Hi there…
The 21oz simply does not shrink. The jeans are fully sanforised and have been treated to a number of processes to ensure this. Washing every 3-4 will not make a difference. The same goes double for the OD. The OD process requires very high temps and levels of agitation that strips all possible shrinkage out of the fabric.
With 21oz you will experience a lot of stretch (with the OD this is even quicker). When you wash they will return to the size they started out as.
21oz is perfect for avoiding high contrast fades btw.

Don't. Hang it and allow it to dry naturally. If I need mine to dry quickly, I pop over a radiator - but here, that is a winter-only thing.
I don’t think the 21oz marbles easily but I agree with Giles that avoiding the dryer is best. It screws with the fabric royally, destroying fibres and thinning out the denim. Regular drying will certainly shorten the life of your jeans.

I don’t necessarily do it every 3-4 weeks, (probably every couple months, unless I have a food spill), but I’ve warm washed an tumble dried pretty much all of the iron heart products I’ve ever had.
For the most part, washing inside out and making sure to soak completely before the wash cycle has prevented too much marbling. 21oz. Does pretty good with this method, and overdye too. One thing I have noticed is that the spin cycle that wrings out the water in a machine wash can create creases in the fabric, so which can translate into fade lines. These usually go away with wear. As for drying, I see how it might weaken the fibers over time, but I haven’t noticed any difference in the life span of my jeans. My 11-year old 634s have been patched in the crotch, but otherwise they’re in great shape!
I think if you want to machine wash and dry for convenience sake, just embrace that a little marbling or lineage may become part of the wabi sabi on your jeans.

@jat I wash my 21oz every 1-2 weeks (anywhere from cold to hot depending on the rest of the load) and have had great results.
I washed inside out for the 1st 6 months or so, but have stopped even doing that with no adverse effects at this point.
I would recommend against drying with heat like the others. Air drying will extend the life of the pants, and with heat you also run the risk of royally frying the leather patch

Hey there! I’m Evan. I’ve been a member previous, but couldn’t for the life of me remember any of my login details haha. While I’ve watched IH for the last six or seven years, I never sized the few pieces I bought correctly and ended up moving them onto other homes. That is until I was watching a J Bannon interview and renewed my interest in the brand. Fast forward a couple weeks and voila, I have an IHSH-239, IHSH-192, and IHSH-133 hanging in my closet. With my size nailed down, it’s a dangerous game now haha.

Hey there! I’m Evan.
Welcome. Some nice shirts you have there. Nailed your size just in time for some hot releases too.
