FOOTBALL get it right..
I know, right? I'll eventually get around to telling my boy that it's referred to as football in other countries but for now, I can't be bothered to discuss the etymology of the word to a soon-to-be 7 yo

i'm sure it will all go away like the others did…eventually.
That is exactly it though, it almost certainly won’t. SARS was an epidemic with 8000 infections and 750 deaths. It spread, sure but was never a pandemic. It never went truly global and it was actually pretty hard to contract.
This is a pandemic in all but name and will surely be called that by the WHO within the month. There are over 80000 confirmed cases and over three thousand deaths with major outbreaks on two continents.
The mortality rate of the novel virus is much lower than SARS, but it is at least twenty times as deadly as influenza. SARS infection required pretty heavy exposure, but COVID-n19, apparently does not. The early evidence suggests it spreads with the same ease as a common cold. So comparing it to SARS is like comparing Levi’s and Iron Heart [emoji6]
The prognosis is that it will become endemic in two years, in the same way as influenza is, a part of the normal rounds of disease affecting the human race. That will be fine when we get a vaccine but until then it will kill a lot of people.
There is no doubt excessive social media and competitive news coverage creates unnecessary anxiety before people get tired. That is dangerous. The threat COVIDn-19 poses should not be over exaggerated, most people who get it will be just fine, but disregarding advice and taking it lightly will increase behaviour that enables the disease to spread even more easily. That makes a difference if you are elderly/senior or if you have a disease requiring you to take corticosteroids as they are the people it will kill if it comes to where you live.
There is good info out there that we need to take note of, but it gets drowned out by all the click bait coverage and by people talking out of their arses.

The fact that a person can be asymptomatic for a good number of days makes it worst. By the time sh_t hits the fan, it is already too late for everyone around him/her.

Agreed.
The prepper sites are probably raking in the dough

I have my Landrover for sale at GBK16K. Some twat just messaged me and said they'll give me 11K for it. I texted back. "11K what? Omani Rial"
I just did a quick exchange rate check; 11k OMR is approximately 22k GBP. Does he want you to cover shipping to Oman?
The joys of commerce in the modern world…

Back to Corona Virus, my MIL works at a Costco and they are completely sold out of bottled water, toilet paper, and paper towels.

Not surprised since Costco sells in bulk. I've stopped buying bottled water because of the environmental issues associated with micro plastics and only drink tap water.

Wash your hands. Like, a lot.

I agree but I’m feeling like preppers dont give a shit. And when I say out of toilet paper I mean like an empty corner of a warehouse. She said it’s never happened before [emoji15]

For sure. I don’t shop at Costco but can say that the other chain grocery stores and places like Target still have these items in stock. I think the hysteria will die down a little once people calm down. I came across a few news articles that stated a company in Texas has allegedly developed a vaccine, but that it still needs FDA approval to go through trials.
