IH-888S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo

Thanks to you both! I think I'm going to give the 33 a shot. I will either drink less beer and slim down or more beer and put more pressure on the waistband to expand!
Cheers!
If you don’t mind a tighter waistband then I think that is a good idea. The 21oz is a forgiving denim and the 888 a forgiving cut.

^^^^ seconded that emotion

Can I expect an inch of stretch in the waist and no shrinkage for certain washing on cold?
You will get at least one inch of stretch from
a W33 in 21oz denim. You can then wash them in 90C water and they still won’t shrink past starting measurements. Thanks! Ended up going with a 33 from R&H because they're out of stock here. This will be my first pair of Iron Hearts and I can't wait.

Congratulations! Let us know how you get on.

Even though @neph93 so accurately describes the different characteristics of the denims and dyes, it has taken me awhile personally to figure what he has been saying–-and what the IH crew makes so clear---and how to read the numbers.
Who knew that jeans could be such an interesting and delightful ordeal?
But once you get the fit and the sizing worked out---add some wear (particularly softening)--- it's like having that baseball glove from back then. It's not a glove, it's just your hand. For me this process has been a bit costly---because I am apparently a slow learner and because I lost a ton of weight and needed a few new pair to make the adjustment.
I bought 888S-21s as tight in the waist as I could happily button because it really is going to stretch, just like they tell us. And the 25oz less so in all respects. On my old body the 888 is the most flattering fit, at least my wife thinks so. But I like more old school everything and so personally prefer the straighter 634. I've been lucky enough to try all the IH fits over time (except the Boss, I think I'm too short) and while that's an expensive experiment, it might be the only way to really know what works best for you. I think it's been worth every dime to find out.

These photos are from March but I thought I'd jump in to eventually track my progress and express how much I enjoy and appreciate the 888s. These are my second pair of IH, the first being the 634s. The 888s have been a great exploration into a completely different kind of fit. Loving these.

Apologies if this question has been asked many times prior. I tried these on today at SE and loved the fit. I tried the 34 and could button the top button but it was definitely snug - like if it didn’t stretch and inch and stay that way they would likely be uncomfortable. The store suggested I go with a 36 but didn’t have a pair in the store.
I really liked the proportions on the 34 I tried. Should I go with the 34 and hope the waist stretches an inch and stays that way? Or should I wait for a restock of the 35? Or buy the 36 in stock here and hot soak if it’s a bit too roomy?
Thanks.

The 21oz stretches readily. If it were me I would go with that.

so go with the 34?

I'd wait till the 35 comes in, but that's just me. The 21oz has a lot of stretch for sure but if a 34 is too tight to get the top button done up, a inch isn't likely going to be enough to enjoy what is designed to be a very comfortable cut

Hrmm, I think he wrote that he could button but it was snug. That's the description of a great fit IMO. If it's not a little snug on the initial wear, you probably should've sized down. Unless you're looking for a loose fit, that is.

Ooops, you are correct. My bad. If it's snug but buttonable I'd say go for the 34. 21oz has plenty of stretch to it!

Correct. On the 34s I could button the top button. It was snug, but not painful. If it stretches one inch it will work for me. And if after I wash it and it shrinks back to original but then stretches back to the one inch limit after I wear it then I will buy the 34s. Otherwise I will wait for the 35s.
