WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)
-
Got home from dropping some food off to my mum’s front door, then had first attempt at using our pizza oven when we got home.
Didn’t burn it as much as I thought I would! [emoji1787][emoji1787]

How do you like the Ooni oven? I've been considering getting one for a couple of years, but never seem to make up my mind.

Thanks chaps.
Hi Chris,
I certainly like it. Took about twenty to twenty five minutes to get to 400 degrees. Glad I got the gas one and not the wood burning one as can regulate the temperature better. Once up to heat, they cooked the pizzas in about a minute. It is also pretty cool to look at.
Cooked the pizza really well but there is definitely a knack to cooking them and getting the temperature right. I turned the heat down for the fourth pizza to minimise the risk of burning and it definitely did not cook the dough properly.
All in all, I am glad that we got it as can definitely see it getting a lot of use in the summer (both by us as a family as the kids love pizza and also for entertaining guests).
However, a firm negative is the additional costs beyond the oven, which I would say is a key consideration to getting one (one which I was not initially aware of).

The ooni cover was £30-£40
-
the peels were £50 each (peel for launching and peel for turning). Initially I did not get the turning peel but I was advised by a family friend that I would need it. They were absolutely right and I would have been fucked without it.
-
The other thing that had to buy was a laser thermometer to measure the temp of the pizza stone. My wife suggested that we didn’t need the thermometer until I politely asked her if she would like to stick her hand into a 400 degree furnace, naturally she changed her mind!
All in, if you can stomach the initial outlay and you think that you will use it regularly then I would certainly recommend getting one.
Hope that helps.

That does help. Thanks, @Cutlasshound.
I think my stumbling block is still how much I'd actually use it. Hearing about ancillary costs helps make me think there are better uses for the money…

@Madame Buttonfly and I have decided it is time to lose some of the Corona lbs that have piled on…. So rucking is now our gig. We planned to do a 6 mile walk down the Solent seafront, it is a one-way walk (sort of obviously, unless we walked around the whole of the UK), so we left Vanny Da Vito at the planned end of the walk and then drove Bimbo back to the start. Car park fee paid, rucksacks on and away we go. Four bloody minutes into the walk and this:
The red flag flying means the Army or Navy or Air Force are playing games on the beach and it's shut.
Back to car, drive around that part of the beach, and ended up doing a scaled back 4-miler…

On Holiday in Maui.

@Brock that looks incredible, and even more so knowing we have -10f on the way later this week.
What is that in the sand? A turtle? A dead seal?
Where in the world did your wife get a leather visor? -
@jordanscollected that big blob in the sand is a Hawaiian monk seal. they're an endangered species & hopefully that one is just taking a nap. also big fines for anyone touching them.
@Jett129 afaik if you get tested & receive a negative covid test result 72 hrs before departure quarantine is not required. For those who don't test there's a 10 day mandatory quarantine. I believe Maui also started a mandatory covid contact tracing program (in addition to a negative covid test prior to arriving) which further helps avoid the 10 day quarantine. Each island is a bit different so maybe Brock can clarify for Maui.
Enjoy the warmth Brock!

Roxanne nailed it on both accounts.
The monk seal was just taking a nap….jordanscollected it’s funny you ask that, because she actually got it here in Lahaina about 3 years ago from Michael the Sandal maker. At the time we both ordered sandals from him. Here is what mine are looking like now….

Thanks @RoxRocks86 the endangered seal has the law on its side.
@Brock cool story with the sandals, I have zero need for those, but I'd hang some for decoration in the house somewhere.
