IH-777-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Indigo
-
Fresh to the 777XHSib myself this week, welcome! How's the waist feel? Mine felt right on the money pre soak (waist measurement matched a pair of jeans that fit me comfortably once stretched out). Looks like you have room in the knee and thigh so it won't be restricting with a little shrink. I'm not an authority enough to know if you could go a size smaller, but from your pics a little shrink looks like the fit will be right on
-
I was gonna comment the same as above but I am reluctant to offer any opinions on fit/ sizing. Good call.

The waist is snug but not too tight. I could button top button fairly comfortably.

To me they look like they’re on the bigger end of the “good fit” range, and if the waist is snug but you could button them fairly easily, that reinforces my opinion. You have plenty of room for some shrink so no worries there, if it were me I’d wear them for a week or two and then give them a good hot soak/wash with agitation like I said in my previous post, and after a few more wears you’ll be golden. Are you going to hem them or rock the big cuffs?
-
@xtcclassic Thanks for your reply. I was thinking to hem but I was not sure about the length because of the shrink factor. So I was planning to hem after getting the shrinkage out of the way. I’m normally a 34” inseam. Do you send them back to IH for hemming or use a local tailor?

In reference to fit, they look comfortable for a pair of 777's. After the soak they will tighten up some but judging from the picture will be comfortable. If that is the look and fit you are after, you are good to go. If you want a tighter look, sizing one down will achieve that. On hemming i would hem at 35 to 35.25 if the end result needs to be at 34. You will loose about 0.5 of an inch or so after the soak and you need to account for the thicker fabric that creases and naturally would loose inseam because of that.

XHS or XHSib? Let’s vote!

I have both, but if I had to choose it would be XHS all day for me.
Can you please be so kind and explain why? And the same thing for you Kasi

How does the 888 fit compare to the 777. It’s a bit hard to tell by the stock photos.

Very different fit. The 888 has a higher rise, front and back. Sits on your waist not your hips. The taper is less aggressive and the thighs are more roomy. Its a great cut if you get the sizing right. Alot of people can size down on the 888 and look great.
-
@yannis thanks for the explanation. I guess I’m still trying to figure out the best cut for myself. The 777 seem better than 666. Haven’t looked at the 888 or 555 yet. Does anyone have some comparison photos. Cheers!

The 555 is the slimmest fit from all i think. Its also a mid to high rise fit but with an aggressive taper to the knee. Its a fit that doesn't work for me at all, but very popular for a lot of people. I love the 666 but its too small for my thighs. Looking at your picture i think the 666 will be very flattering to you. You look tall and linky. The top block of the 666 is a mid rise, with a slim thigh but no taper. The knee and leg opening are more roomie. If you are going for a slim kind of todays trendy look, the 555, 777 and 888(if sized right) will give you that look.

@yannis, thanks..I did try the 666. I liked the waist to knee fit but the knee to hem without taper seemed too wide and bulky which is why I’m trying the 777 now.
@giles, thanks for the link. The descriptions are helpful. If I may make a suggestion to maybe have same model wear all the cuts on that page under each of the cut types for a visual comparison. This may be helpful for a newbie like myselfSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

In all honesty i think the 777 is a very good cut for you judging from your picture. If you are not happy with the fact that they look more on the comfy side than fitted side you can try to go one size down and see how you like it.

I have IH hem them before they ship them, I just tell them where I want the inseam to end up after shrink. They know what they’re doing.
-
@yannis. I think the fit is pretty good. A size smaller would be too tight in the waist probably.
@xtcclassic. I soaked the 777 and sent to IH to have them hemmed. We’ll see how they turn out. Thanks for all the helpful information.

Hi all - first post on the site and this is my first pair of 25 oz denim. My other denim is cuffed, however I would like to hem these, but want to make sure I follow the right process.
A couple items:
1. Fit right now is good. They are definitely tight, but not too tight. My concern is that any shrinking could make them unwearable (primarily in the thighs).2. I’ve attached a couple fit pics below. Based on what I’ve read in this thread, it sounds like I should soak them in hot water, then machine wash warm, to get all the shrink out (shrinking to ensure I don’t get adjustments in fade locations). Again, please take a look at the pics and see if that could make these unwearable.
3. Would it be an option to just soak them in warm water and agitate, and then for the life of the jeans, do the same as the cleaning method? That way I wouldn’t have to worry about additional shrinkage down the road? Seems if I had to wash them, I could simply use cold water?
Size 33 - I’m 5’9 & 165 lbs.
Thanks for the suggestions!

The soak plus machine wash is really only recommended by IH for the UHR. You don’t need to do both.
You’re right about the doing an initial soak/wash that is as warm/robust as what your normal cycle will be. I wash my jeans at 40C, low spin, so i tend to soak XHS at 50C and give them a wiggle around in the tub.
A rule of thumb with XHS is that they will stretch back to pre soak dims with wear. So the 0-3-0.5” you loose in the thigh will come back. Barring a few days of discomfort, I think you’ll be fine.
Have you worn them much already?

Thanks for the quick response! I’ll follow that above and do the soak/wash with warm water, and moving forward I typically just do mostly soaks unless I spill red wine on my favorite denim (lessons learned lol).
The photo yesterday was just put on after work as a fit check.
Thoughts on the fit? The thighs could use a bit more room, but the top block has plenty of room and certainly doesn’t need to go bigger (below the knees is perfect as well).
While the thighs are tight, it seems that a good part of that is due the weight/stiffness of the fabric.
