IH-777-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Indigo
-
@yannis. I think the fit is pretty good. A size smaller would be too tight in the waist probably.
@xtcclassic. I soaked the 777 and sent to IH to have them hemmed. We’ll see how they turn out. Thanks for all the helpful information.

Hi all - first post on the site and this is my first pair of 25 oz denim. My other denim is cuffed, however I would like to hem these, but want to make sure I follow the right process.
A couple items:
1. Fit right now is good. They are definitely tight, but not too tight. My concern is that any shrinking could make them unwearable (primarily in the thighs).2. I’ve attached a couple fit pics below. Based on what I’ve read in this thread, it sounds like I should soak them in hot water, then machine wash warm, to get all the shrink out (shrinking to ensure I don’t get adjustments in fade locations). Again, please take a look at the pics and see if that could make these unwearable.
3. Would it be an option to just soak them in warm water and agitate, and then for the life of the jeans, do the same as the cleaning method? That way I wouldn’t have to worry about additional shrinkage down the road? Seems if I had to wash them, I could simply use cold water?
Size 33 - I’m 5’9 & 165 lbs.
Thanks for the suggestions!

The soak plus machine wash is really only recommended by IH for the UHR. You don’t need to do both.
You’re right about the doing an initial soak/wash that is as warm/robust as what your normal cycle will be. I wash my jeans at 40C, low spin, so i tend to soak XHS at 50C and give them a wiggle around in the tub.
A rule of thumb with XHS is that they will stretch back to pre soak dims with wear. So the 0-3-0.5” you loose in the thigh will come back. Barring a few days of discomfort, I think you’ll be fine.
Have you worn them much already?

Thanks for the quick response! I’ll follow that above and do the soak/wash with warm water, and moving forward I typically just do mostly soaks unless I spill red wine on my favorite denim (lessons learned lol).
The photo yesterday was just put on after work as a fit check.
Thoughts on the fit? The thighs could use a bit more room, but the top block has plenty of room and certainly doesn’t need to go bigger (below the knees is perfect as well).
While the thighs are tight, it seems that a good part of that is due the weight/stiffness of the fabric.

Yeah, they look right to me. The combo of heavy fabric that you aren’t used to, the rigidity and the slim fit are likely making them feel weird now but when you break them in they feel amazing. There’s no permanent shrinkage on these. I’ve had mine for ten years in 666 and they haven’t shrunk a bit. Washing before wearing will remove excess starch and protect against crotch blowout and cuff crease abrasion that can occur from the friction created when the denim is so thick and stiff.
I think the cuffs look good. I had mine hemmed and have always regretted it. They were my first pair. Haven’t shortened anything since.
-
Thanks for the input! Did a quick soak last night then in the washing machine on warm (bit under 100F by feel) and let them agitate a little then pulled them out.
They were still damp this morning, but I put them on and did about 20 ass to grass squats in them. I think they’ll be good.
My other two pairs of selvedge denim (Japan Blue) are cuffed. I’m considering hemming the XHS just so I have a pair that’s different.
Is hemming something I could always do down the road (6+ months) and not have to worry about it impacting any fades? Seems like if I had them hemmed to the same length as the bottom of the cuff, they should be fine.

You can hem whenever now the length has been shortened by the soak. Be aware that not every tailor/seamstress will work on 25oz denim. You may need to send them to a denim specialist if you don’t live near one.

@Danwel1 just another bit of food for thought, if you're cuffing and want to keep the option of hemming down the line open, make sure you leave the inseam with cuff a bit longer than you'd like it to be with the hem. The reason being you might get a bit of wear/damage at the cuff, and you want to make sure there's enough good fabric to form the hem else they might end up shorter than you'd like when hemmed.

I did that once with a well-loved pair, and then I ended up with a too short hem! This way I learnt that when I cuff my jeans I generally wear them a little higher than when I have them hemmed. So if you decided to have them hemmed later, make sure there is some room left for them to drape over you footwear nicely.
Just my 2 cents.

Great advice by everyone (and insanely quick). I’ve been creeping this forum for years but just joined with the questions on the 25 oz. I have several other IH clothing items I’ll be posting up in their respective threads.
With the soak, the shortened inseam should shrink the size of the cuff a bit, in which case I think I may be fine to keep it. The current size pre-soak was a bit larger than I prefer..
Going to be a tough choice! I have a while to decide while I continue to break them in.

Here we go… finally! Yesterday the IH-777-XHS arrived. SUPERFAST delivery - thanks a lot for the service @Graham !
I'm wearing a IH-777S-21 for 2 years so now it was time to upgrade to 25oz. Well, the date of purchase - it's close to August - wasn't the very best time of the year for an extra heavy denim… But only 4 items of size 33 have been left in stock when I decided to pull the trigger in the middle of German summer: safety first
I was a little bit scared after reading some comments in this thread regarding stiffness of the fabric, fit (too tight?!) and waist measurements. But obviously I get so used to 21oz that 25oz are not such a big change. But I have to confess: buttoning and cuffing were a real challenge :o
Fit, fabric, texture, measurements, workmanship are just incredible! Size 33 (exactly like my IH-777S-21) is perfect for me: 1,81 cm / 81 kg.
By the way:
- shirt: IHSH-13-BLU
- boots: Red Wing 3192 Hawthorne

@Mickey GT solid fit! Really digging the shirt, jeans and boots combo

Thank you very much @jerkules
It's strange: the denim feels already comfortable. I haven't expected that.

Think I've settled on the IH-777-XHS for my next pair, assuming the last in my size doesn't disappear before I can get it with the Summer Sale!
-
Received my pair of IH-777-XHS from the summer sale. Graham and AJ were kind enough to verify my sizing prior to shipping (first order thru IH direct.) My pair went into the hot bathtub yesterday and then air dried overnight. Currently playing some Fallout 4 and doing chores as I break them in. Can't wait to get them hemmed, but wanted to go through a local operation to get that done. Not as harsh as I thought they'd feel, although my broken-in 21oz sure do feel like sweatpants compared to these.
For whatever reason, one of my cats has become obsessed with this pair. He tried to climb on the drying rack multiple times. I shut him out of the bathroom, but left the door open in the AM, only to find him curled up atop the rack and my IH-777-XHS.

Hi all, firstly I am absolutely gutted I missed the sale. Secondly, looking for some sizing help
I have had experience with 2 pairs of IH. First was 18oz 666s. In 34W. Loved them but the thighs were too tight - as in thought the seams would burst. Waist was ok but a little snug. Moved them on abd bought 666s 21oz OD in W36. Fit like a glove. If anything they are a tad loose on the waist but def have the sweat pant feel people talk about. I would like to try XHS in either 777 or 666 and wondered if I should shoot for 36, try 35 or 34? I appreciate they stretch out. Any advice welcome. Thanks all.
PS: Bonus fact I have now tried the following since starting in Selvedge: Eternal (Nice colour and slub - awesome red pocket bag), PBJ (amazing texture but a bit too baggy for me), 3 Sixteen (Great value but feel mid tier), Edwin (Not a fan), Strike Gold (Love these - have the ones with the brown weft)

Measurements are key. Tag size can be deceptive as different iterations of the same cut can vary slightly.
Measure your best fitting pair like IH do, then compare with the tables.
