IH-888S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo

Just washed so figured I’d post some pics. Got them in about March of 2021 worn 4+ days a week or so since. Numerous washes. Going to send in for crotch repair this fall most likely and trying to decide between 555uhr or 888uhr for my next pair. The 888 and 555 are my favorite fits so I’m kind of torn… any suggestions?

Nice evo, @hgering27
From what I’ve heard the UHR is a lot less breathable than 21OZ, so you might be happy to have some more for air circulation in the 888?
I also went for the 888 UHR as my second IH denim. Will pick them up in September

@weftyarn thanks man! Yeah I’m leaning towards 888 right now I just love both fits so I’m torn…

Aaaah, putting these bad boys on again is like reuniting with an old friend.
What do people think of this though? My thighs rubbing when I walk is causing the inseam to start to fray. Too soon to repair, or should I reinforce it now to protect the seam?
Sorry for the crotch shot… ️

In my experience, one can be lazy and go on for years with this type of damage. Your mileage may vary.

they may wear enough and stop rubbing

Thanks both!
@steelworker I doubt it! My thighs rub even when I have nothing on - too many years of too many heavy squats - unless I walk like I'm bow-legged.
I think maybe I'll get hold of some white thread and do a little sashiko along the seam just to reinforce it.

Can’t go wrong with either one. Neither of those fits are made for me, but the UHR is great and yes, less breathable than the 21oz.

@Dmart yeah I think thats why I am leaning more towards 888 right now. I am wearing 555sbg right now and I love them, but If they are heavier than how these feel, I might need to rely on some of that looser fit in the 888

This
I typically put my Singer on zig zag mode and do some reinforcing stitches right along the frayed seam.
Have thought about going for the Sashiko equivalent, only a matter of time until I actually do it.My 888s are actually ready for it too, give me a sec….

The surgery went well for the patient.

Yup, my trusty Singer Heavy Duty really managed to sew over a 21OZ crotch. Can't believe it!!

@weftyarn thats actually quite helpful for reference. I’ll be going in by hand but I like trying things!

??? Whoa, thats a lot of denim to punch through

I have the 555 UHR since wednesday, soaked and washed the beast in the evening and let it dry.. well it took a long time do dry, first time puttin those on was a struggle after a few hours they fit like a glove and i’m totally happy with how they fit, they tend to run a little bigger then a ‘normal’ 555 little more room in the tigh and a higher rise if i compare it with my 555-SLB. So i must say that I’m totally happy with the 555. Soaked for 1 hour in the hottest water i could tap and washed it without spin on 30 degrees celcius. Lost 2 inch on the length, waist wise not that much to be honest.

The UHR is objectively a little heavier after soak, but the SBG is pretty gnarly stuff in itself so you’ll tackle these. As stated UHR iterations tend to come up a little bigger than other iterations due to the nature of the denim. It requires more leeway when being sewn up due to being loomstate, and some extra room is included to account for shrinkage.
