Giles and Paula's Great Retirement Adventure
-
You both look great on the aft deck of The Pilgrim. I went out side for a smoke and said Far Call fast and got it. Great name and very fitting for you.

This thread continues to bring so much joy. Congratulations to you both. I hope it is a source of wonderful memories and incredible adventures.

Congratulations, you will have such great times on that boat.

Best of luck with the survey today. I'm sure it will go great.

We've bought a boat.
The survey was on the whole brilliant. A Couple of lights don't work, but could just be as basic as a dead light bulb or a blown fuse.
More concerning (which just means we'll need to throw some money at it), is that the copper-coated bottom is blistering slightly, probably because some mistakes were made in its application.
I could probably have negotiated the vendor down a bit, but we paid £40K under the initial asking price, think we have a steal (2 sets of people want to buy it off us already ), and I want to stay friends with him, so I did not bother.

Damn, that all sounds fantastic — seems y'all got a great deal. Here's to starting off the retirement adventure ahead of the curve!
-
Damn good looking rig, @Giles. Congrats!
How much time from now until you think it'll be all sorted/repaired and ready for the inaugural trip?
-
I'll bring it to Gosport next week (I hope) with the current owner. That way we will start to learn some of her systems.
A condition of our insurance is that we have someone on board, when underway, who has a minimum of RYA Day Skipper:
We have the Day Skipper theory booked for mid-March, and I guess we will have done the practical part, and be qualified by June.
So we will probably do a load of trips, but always with someone who knows what they're doing until we get qualified.
Regarding sorting and repairs….There is nothing that will stop us using the boat immediately. The lights need fixing, but as long as we don't go out after dark we are fine. The Copper Coat, we'll leave until next winter, it was like it when it was surveyed a year ago and has not got a whole lot worse.

Fantastic result
