Had my 777's for over a year now and still haven't gotten the stretch that I'd hoped to get. I've stayed the same weight but they are just still super tight. Bought a 30" hoping they'd stretch to a 31" but no luck yet. Any recommendations?

Do they fit too tight in other areas aside from the waist? If so it might be worth going up a size or perhaps even try out a different cut. If it’s been a year, I’d say it’s not going to get a lot better.
In my case, I don’t get a lot of stretch in the waist with my pairs so I can go with my natural size and not worry about sizing down, but it’s all depending on how you wear your denim / body.

Thanks for the response. Yeah they are tight along the hips and thighs as well. A bit bummed as the guy from the shop told me they would stretch out roughly an inch over the course of 20-30 wears.
I'll look into other cuts with roughly the same fit.

An inch of stretch in the waist can happen with most denim, especially if under stress. You’ll never see more than a quarter to half inch of stretch in thighs or the top block, though. Sounds like this pair is just too tight.
Good luck with the next step!

Thanks! Any recommendations for a similar fit?

If you’re thinking IH then the 777 is the only slim tapered low rise they do.
888 is more relaxed, with a high rise but tapers in a similar fashion.
555 is as slim in the thigh, even slimmer in the knee, but has a roomier top block which may be what you’re after.

No probs. I’ll add that sizing up in the same pair would likely work.
Also, if you like the 777 then the IH-777-SLB or IH-777s-21 in the same size may work as they are much more liable to stretch and relax than the 14oz.
EDIT: and of course, I forgot the SST Shinayaka denim. The 777 in the same tag would be perfect, I suspect.

Yeah @bitman84 id just size up one size if you like the denim and the cut.

I’d be curious what shop gave that advice.
I had the same advice when I was new to selvedge and raw denim. The shop was Rivet & Hide. I found a pair I felt really comfortable in but they talked me out of it and very firmly advised me to get a smaller size. I shouldn’t have listened to them. The jeans never stretched like they said they would and it ended up being a waste of my money. I learned my lesson but I’m still a little bitter about it!

I would say that the majority of times any of our washed denim will stretch at least an inch with wear. That is the very nature of a twill weave, and is one of the reasons denim is such a loved fabric, because it forms well to individual body shapes.
That said, it is not a perfectly predictable science.

I had to give up with them. Just wasn’t going to work. Never loosened up. Great denim, just not the cut for me. Switched to 555 for the more roomier and higher top block.

I've worn raw denim for over a decade, but this was my first pair of IH jeans. I went as far as sending the IH sales rep a video of me in them to get his thoughts. I don't really feel comfortable saying who it was as I'm sure he was just trying to be helpful. Yeah I've come to the conclusion that these just aren't going to work. I just grabbed 2 pairs from another brand that I know works for me and hope to get back to IH sooner or later. Thanks for all the advice, it's been much appreciated.

Hey y'all! I've owned a pair of 777 in the 21oz denim for the past few years, and want to pick up a pair in this 14oz denim. Just feeling a little caught between sizes, since a lot of people here are saying this 14oz denim doesn't stretch as much as the 21oz.
Only issue I have with my 21oz pair is when I sit down and stand back up (especially in the car,) they get pulled down a bit in the back. I figure it's my own fault for wearing them so slim in the top block and thigh. They fit great when I'm standing/walking, like a glove! But they are certainly worn quite slim. I don't know if I'm on the right track by considering one size larger, or if the bit of extra room everywhere will just exacerbate this problem I have. Thanks!

I’d say the problem is the cut, not sizing. The rise on the 777 is the lowest of IH cuts.
Sizing up will give you a slightly higher rise, so it may work, Alternatively you could try the 555 which is both slim in the the thigh, tapered, but has a higher rise.

I had that problem years ago with that 777 25oz hanging down… when they first drop
Stop wearing the 777.
When back to them, this time I size up..
Am ok with, not bother if they lose on the legs..

Thanks so much for the quick replies! I did suspect the culprit was the lower rise, but "10/14" has been all I've known for decades Unfortunately, I'm built like Hank Hill, so any time I've tried a cut even hinting at "mid-rise" or larger, has resulted in diaper butt. I'll go with a size up in the 14oz and see how they fare!
