If you're not going to wear the high-rise as high-rise, I think it's going to look little sloppy. Hence the recommendation towards 634/633 or 777.
But if you want to stick with a high rise, dropping one or two sizes will get you a more trim fit while still being comfortable, I think.
And to Filthy's point, the waist should be a little tight at first. It does loosen up with wear. I always wear a belt to keep the waist from loosening up too much.
-
Those are a 34, right? I’d give the 634 or 633 in 34 a go. You could probably size down in those 888, and/or just pull them closer to your waist and wear a belt. I think if that pair was pulled up a bit, the fit would look a little better.
I don’t think they look bad. Looser=comfier is sometimes a worth option.
-
Without trying to beat the horse to death your pair is simply too big. Its hard to tell if a cut will be flattering to your body shape unless its sized right. Any cut sized wrong will not look right. Now if you are going for super comfy? then mission accomplished.

Thanks everyone for all the conflicting opinions making this decision that much more agonizing.
I think I'll go with the 888 21s size 33.

Dont sweat it. Order a pair but do hem it just in case you do not like the fit, you can always return it and maybe try something different.

Yes my bad! Thank you for the correction

Don’t take this the wrong way but it seems like all the opinions other than yours are that the 888s are the wrong fit for you and you should maybe try something with a lower rise. That’s just a personal observation.
If you size down in the 888 it will only create a new problem… the waist measurement will still sit too low because they won’t fit as high over your stomach as they’re meant to. If you don’t plan on changing the shape of your body (not suggesting you need to) then you need to change the shape of the pants ie. a different cut.
Again, these are just some personal observations. Do with them what you will.

Some people are saying I need a lower rise.
But some people are saying you can't tell from seeing me wear a size too large. Here's me in a 633 size 33. Perfect waist. Major plumbers crack. Thighs a little too tight.
Do you still think I need a 634?And I want to order them hemmed, no returns.. upping the stakes even further.
-
I do think that’s a better fit. If you like the taper on the 888 then go for the 633. The comfort level with the lower rise is just something you adjust to as you wear them more. I had to adjust when I switched to a higher rise from wearing 666 and 777 for the past 10 years.
Look closely at how SE measures. Like Mike said they can seem vanity sized but really they don’t pull the waist taut when they measure, they just lay them flat so the measurement is smaller than the true circumference of the waist.
To further complicate things, remember that measurements don’t tell the whole story. A lot of people size down one in high rise because a lot of people have a smaller stomach compared to their hips or waist. For me a 33 777 fits about the same as a 32 888. The waist sits on a different part of my body so the measurement is different.

A 633 or 634 looks better to my eye. You may want to try on a 34 if you can, to see if the thigh feels better, or a small back rise difference helps you feel less exposed. The other thing I would suggest is to take a look at the work pant cuts like the 816, 822 or 728 because they have a lower front rise paired with a higher rear rise. Best of all worlds, IMO

Sorry to create any confusion. But this is what I meant by vanity sized. Looking at a Self Edge 633 posted measurements versus tagged they range from an inch to 1.5 inches larger than tagged. Plus if you take into account that the waist measured the SE way will be a half an inch smaller than the IHUK way. That is a lot bigger than the tagged size. I know usually raw/unsanforized denim comes an inch bigger than tagged to account for shrinkage. But this particular denim is "lightly sanforized" and will not shrink much and will, in fact stretch an inch under normal circumstances…
633XHS sizes posted on SE:

Edit: these are my 634-19L tagged size 36…and you can see what they measure and check out how this compares to the posted measurements for yourself.

Ok being honest with myself, I guess I have the same degree of plumbers crack in the 888.
So I'll order the 634 in 33. Nearly identical to the pair I ordered and returned 4 months ago [emoji24]Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

order them unhemmed, try them and when they fit send them back for hemming
Much cheaper
made the same mistake once, never again -
The plumbers crack seems like a byproduct of the low placement of your waist which due to your body shape is likely going to be present in any cut.
The other issue here is that if you ever lose inches in the waist/stomach area then the high rose will work better but you’ll have to go with a totally different size altogether which puts you back to square one. ??? This happened to me and it took a couple tries to figure out my new size.
If you want to work with what you have now, go with the lower rise. 633 for a tapered leg or 634 for straight.

I think a 634 look good either sized down, up, or right sized. It's pretty versatile. The taper of the 633 looks kind of wonky unless you wear them very slim… Speaking from my own experience.

I do have to say that those 633 look better than your 888, but man, it's totally up to you! If someone tells you that the 633 looks better but you like the 888 better, stick with the 888! It's only because you listed the 888 as being a bit low and loose and making you look slobby that people recommended a different cut or sizing down. Don't get cyber-bullied into buying Iron Heart jeans

What about the 1955? That cut seems pretty similar to 888.
I dont think the 11 inch front rise on the 634 will work for me. I tried some old 501s and the front rise was pretty snug at 11.5 inches.Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
