IHSH-340-RED - Ultra Heavy Flannel Classic Check Western Shirt - Red

Is Olly really in an XL here? He's usually a L and yet the measurements on the L are more generous than usual as I recall and this shirt actually looks smaller on him.
-
Then every shirt I like with him modeling he's a L…

@Denimminer thank you for flagging this. It turns out that Olly was indeed wearing a large. Not sure where the XL came from, sorry about that.

New to the forum so this is my first post
Just picked this flannel up from IH Germany and I absolutely love it. I have been waiting for it to drop for months, so I was very excited to finally get it. I posted a fit pic on another forum ::) and got wildly differing opinions on sizing. I wanted to go to the source and see what folks here think. Seemed like the majority on the forum thought I should size up. I am concerned about that as the next size up is a Large and is almost a whole inch larger in the chest. I am fairly trim guy with an athletic build and I don't like my shirts to be too loose. Also, rule of thumb I normally follow with wearing untucked shirts is it should hit at about the middle of your fly on the front, and the middle of your butt on the back. I plan on wearing this mostly with only a t shirt underneath. I plan to wash very infrequently and when I do, it will be in cold water, gentle cycle, and hang dried. What do y'all think, keep the medium, or try the large?

that's a great fit in my opinion. as good as it gets, and this shirt is wonderful

@B_OneBomber Welcome to the forum. I have no idea where the suggestions of sizing up come from. The overall fit looks fine to me. The arm length is where I would like it, the overall length is good. If anything, the shoulders/upper back looks a little roomy to me. Did you pick it up in person? Did you try on a size smaller? That would snug it up in these areas, but will possibly come up too short.

Thank you! Yeah, I agree, it's a beautiful shirt

Size up, no way, you could have some shrinkage and it still not be too small…. Was it a clothing forum
Thanks for the feedback! Seems like after a cold wash it will be perfect. That is what I was hoping for. I wanted a little room for shrinkage just in case. I have another IH shirt (5 oz Chambray Workshirt) and its the same size. Not sure how consistent IH is with its sizing in the different shirt offerings, but they seem fairly similar. I also compared the measurements pretty meticulously to two other shirts I have and selected my size based on that. I pretty much got what I expected. I was very pleased with how accurate the measurements were on your site. I appreciate that.
It was raw denim forum haha. I think you can probably guess which one :o :o :o Was the first time I ever posted a fit pic. I guess I shouldn't be surprised what you get when you ask the internet an opinion about something like this. I was a little surprised at the amount shade thrown at IH shirts. Main complaint was the price ???

I got this online from IH Germany so I was not able to try on a smaller size. Based on the chest and length measurements though, I don't think the small would work. I'm thinking after one home wash and a little shrinkage, this will be perfect. Thanks for your feedback!

@B_OneBomber Just found the forum and spent the last 10 minutes reading the comments regarding the fit of your shirt. All over the place re: sizing, fit, and finish. Most of the time I was just shaking my head in a general disbelief.
Not going to bash but I think the age demographic and audience is much different than you will find here. The most important thing is that you’re happy and my $.02 is that you’ve done a good job.

I don't consider Reddit a proper forum, and neither should you. I saw your post yesterday and the replies were ridiculous. As Giles said, if anything I would think about sizing down depending how trim you like the fit. With the shirt you currently own, it looks great and you have room for some shrinkage to occur to dial it in perfectly!

@B_OneBomber my opinion is worth no more than anyone else’s but some thoughts:
it looks good to me
@goosehd is (obviously) right - if you’re happy then the fit’s good
fit and build quality are different beasties - we have probably all got our hands on something that’s gorgeous but just doesn’t work for us (not that this applies in this case)
value for money is entirely subjective - again if you’re happy then everything’s good
I get the need for a second opinion (and I’ve asked in the past) but only you know how you feel - if you’re happy …
