@Wander, yeah, Yellowstone was fantastic.  The Lower Falls is one of the most impressive sights I've ever seen.  And with the Tetons just down the road, it's a hiker's paradise.

@wdw, are you US based? I’d recommend Glacier NP, mid-spring for a sensory overdose! The swift current valley puts on her best dress! Grizzly season.

Just to set the record straight. Wife takes the pics, we’ve ditched the DSLRs from the first trip with our first daughter. Too much gear/kids to manage. Thanks to iPhone. When I take a picture I make sure there’s a little bit of thumb on the frame and stand my ground that the picture would have been the best if not for the wandering thumb.

Plenty of Backcountry adventure to come, including hiking Black Canyon of the Gunnison over Christmas.

We’ve friends/family in Boulder next time we visit, would love to toast a beer or two at the Sun brew pub? Unfortunately, just couldn’t get into skiing and related sports.

Technically difficult to capture? Obviously there’s starlight/moonlight and the ice reflects well but still I’d imagine they are tough shots to take.

Yes, they are quite demanding on the equipment. Tripod, a camera body which delivers good results at ISO setting fom 3200 to 6400, a very bright lens (apertures 1.4-2.8 ) and shutter speeds as long as up to 30 seconds.

Yes 30 seconds, but the shorter the better. Ideal between 15 and 20 seconds, because of the earth rotation the stars get to star trails the longer the shutter is open.
