IHM-30-IND - Whipcord N1 Jacket - Indigo
-
Received this jacket recently and it’s top quality. The wool and alpaca lining is the standout feature which makes it a really warm winter jacket. Not sure how it’ll cope in wet weather but I’m hoping there’s a degree of water resistance in the whipcord cotton. I’m really pleased with the jacket so far. Well done to the designers and manufacturers.
Even if the wool is wet it will still be warm.

I’m 5’10” and 170lbs. I usually wear a size large in IH shirts, although really I’m probably between medium and large.
With that in mind, what size would I probably be looking at for an IH N1 Jacket? Thanks for your help.

@going_to_battle If you hover over the names of the crew in the product description, you can see our vitals and what size we wear.
I am a Small/Medium in IH Shirts but wear a Small in deck jackets. I could wear a Medium but I always find the sleeve a bit long.
Depending on your build, I would err towards a Large. For a more detailed insight get in touch with one of the crew and we can run through measurements etc to help you further

I’m an XL in most IH, but can get away with an L in some shirts. My N-1 is XL and it is great but I am able to layer heavily under it (which I need in northern Norway). I’d definitely wear an L over lighter layers.
I’d suggest you consider your layering needs. If you’ll be wearing sweaters, UHF’s etc under then L, if you’re wearing over just a top or light shirt, then M may well be enough.

I agree with @neph93 and @AdamJ. I’m 5’11, 185lbs and would wear a large based on the measurements. It’s a winter coat so layering will be a necessity imo. Better to have extra room to layer than none at all

I’m 6’2, 170lb and wear a large. It has room for layering and isnt constricting in the shoulder.

This is the truth. That being said, from an aesthetic point of view I think they look great over a single layer, worn short. If I had the coin and room in the wardrobe, I’d love to have a sized down version as well. It would be quite an effective spring/autumn jacket where I live.

@going_to_battle A N1 is on my list of wants, so have tried them on a bit and have found I can actually wear a small (I prefer my clothes to fit me more than being loose) but I have also found a Medium was a good fit as well, giving me a bit more room. So for me it is just a personal preference - I am in the camp as @neph93 said - and I would wear the jacket over a single layer.
I also find I am inbetween IH shirts, I can wear both M and L, and it depends much of the time the type of fit/shirt/material it is, what size I go for.
If you need any help sizing for the N1, give me a shout

Thanks so much for all the replies - they've been really helpful.
I was chatting to someone on IG who wears a medium (and it looks great on him). He is 6ft and 180lb. I am 5'10" and 170lb. So I figured a medium would be the best choice for me.
But now I'm a little worried there won't be room for layering. I don't intend to wear thick layers, but I'd definitely want room for an UHF with a t-shirt underneath.
I worry a large will be a bit 'baggy' though and I'm also concerned about the arm length (I have short arms).
It's a tough call!

You're in the UK I believe. Toss a coin. If it does not fit it's a 8 or 9 quid return shipping mistake to return for the other size. Or if you need more instant surety, order both, send one back and we will refund you immediately…
Have you seen the queues at the Post Office?!
Seriously though, you're right, I'm worrying over nothing for the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for being the voice of reason.

If it helps then having it both ways may be tricky. My XL is certainly baggy over just one layer.
You may need to work out how you would use it the most.

It's worth considering that if the jacket fits too tight it will most likely give less warmth as the alpaca lining will be compressed. Mine fits me perfect to layer over an UHF but probably a bit loose over a t-shirt. It's worth considering that this is a very warm jacket so I'd say it's unlikely that you'll wear it with thin layers underneath. I'd also say that the jacket has a very flattering cut which means that it probably won't look off if it's a tad big.

Even though I picked up my first N1 last year, the Olive 29 and I love it so much. This Indigo one seems like pure fire and the want is strong

I've been returning over and over to the size chart on this one and I feel that it's a toss-up between the medium and the large. At 6' and 175 lbs, I feel as though I could go with either size depending on preference. I would really prefer a trimmer fit, but the dimension of most concern to me is the shoulder width as this jacket comes up narrower in that area than other IH jackets I own.
For those that decided to go with a smaller size: Do you find that the smaller shoulder size is not too constricting? I figure that the longer sleeve length may help to compensate for concerns in that regard.

Got myself this jacket in XS over the recent sale, as well as the IHM-24 in S. Turns out I like this one best (though the IHM-24 is pretty irresistable to me too), plus it fits me better, so I'll be keeping this one! Now I just hope there is still some winter left in store, so I actually get to wear it for a bit!

Just out of curiosity: anybody out there who knows why there's a considerable price difference between the indigo version of this jacket and the "regular" one? Is indigo dying more complex and thus expensive?

Correct, the dye itself is more expensive, and the process much more complicated. Getting a garment saturated with indigo to the degree this whipcord is, becomes especially difficult and requires skill and knowledge.
