@Brian as @louisbosco said, it doesn't make a lot of difference between having a UK and Australian passport when travelling to Europe. I flew into the UK on mine last time, despite being a British citizen, because I'd travelled via the US, and I didn't want it to appear as though I'd disappeared somewhere between SF and London.
You will need an Australian passport to leave Australia if you're a citizen. If you're not, you'll need a year or two for that to come through, and you might want to apply for one of the new blue British passports...
I'm going to be in Orkney and Shetland during the first half of August. I'm trying to decide if I'll stick around until September. It really depends on what I'm doing.
I know I would need a passport to leave the country even more so trying to get back in
Been a citizen since 2017 grabbed the chance the moment it was available, here you need to be a citizen in order to vote etc and even a permanent visa still has the risk of being cancelled so wasn’t a chance I wanted to take
Flights seem roughly 3-4K aud and 28 odd hours
Might look into visiting Blighty first and do the short flight as a short break -
great James !

@Jcaz6996 awesome Mate

@Brian I thought you were a citizen, but just checking.
It's probably worth comparing prices for flying into Amsterdam Schiphol, Brussels, and perhaps some of the German hubs like Frankfurt. One time I caught a flight to Paris, then took a short hop over to London or Manchester.
I found flying out of Sydney was quite a lot cheaper than Melbourne last year, but I'm between them in Regional Victoria.
Lastly, the multi-destination flights on Qantas aren't too bad. I flew Sydney-SF-London last year, and it was cheaper that way than trying to stitch my own itinerary together using Skyscanner.

@goosehd koln is lovely. can vouch for that.
I'll second that.
You're also close to Amsterdam, and the Netherlands is really easy to get around by train.

@DrPat
The "Scandic" is also only a 5 minute walk from the shop and makes a good impression.
