Common decency is an endangered species. It seems like the bulk of humanity has leaned in hard to sociopathic levels of selfishness and self centeredness.
If you need to take a video call, fine. There’s this thing called headphones you can use.
If I ruled the world there would be laws encouraging tasing people who use speakers for extended periods in public. Maybe even a bounty program.

@giles, I will admit I think of you whenever I'm eating out and see people doing these loud phone / video conversations. It' annoying.
-
I think the best part,if you feel like getting into it,is that the person on the other end of the video chat can see/hear what’s going on. Happened to me once in my gym locker room. Signs all over the place No Cell Phones. A guy is on a really loud video chat. I tell him to take it out side. It gets really ugly really quick. He eventually plays the I pay to be here card,I play the we all pay to be here card,and I can see the person on the other end,so lean into the argument,with him eventually telling me to shut the fuck up. To which I say…You’re a lot bigger than me so I’ll shut the fuck up. He says that’s right. But the person on the other end has witnessed the entire exchange,and at that point he leaves. Never saw him again.

I’m going to have to show this thread to my wife and say “ look it’s not just me!” She gets annoyed with me that I get so pissed off when these self entitled eejits behave like this in bars/restaurants/trains.

@mclaincausey said in Random Rants:
The WAYWT thread diverts a lot of attention to product-specific threads and embedded fit pics. I detest the notion of double- or cross-posting, so it's typically one or the other.
One forum enhancement that could help would be product tags that function similarly to user tags, with auto-completion. These would be searchable so that users could easily see all posts with a given product tag with a simple query.
Imagine being able to tag your WAYWT post with @IHSH-87, etc, and for those tags to either link to the product thread or to a search for all instances of a tag as described above.
Just randomly stumbled across this from a while ago. What a great idea @mclaincausey - I wonder if the infrastructure has developed at all since this post to potentially accommodate this idea….

@long_john86 Cool idea, we've got the new version of NodeBB testing beginning this week so I'll add it to our feature wishlist and see what we can do
-
I stated this once before and I’ll do so again. A lot of my time is spent fixing things on the forum, moving stuff around, etc…there are a lot of you whose attention to detail is not as developed as others and the thought of tags being used and implemented scares the crap out of me. I can’t fathom how many times they will be used incorrectly and pointing to the wrong products, etc. and the work involved in fixing all of the errors.
I wouldn’t reinvent the wheel and make this place any more complicated than it already is and personally, I do not want to see tags being implemented…
-
I remember from a while back that the issue with tagging was one of processing power. Facebook, IG, etc all have it because they have the money and hardware to do it. These smaller systems do not. That was three or four years ago though, so things may have developed. I think it would be an excellent feature. So much knowledge and info pertaining to, for example, a specific denim, is spread across different threads. All that being said, I have no idea about how retroactive application of tagging would work.

@long_john86 @mclaincausey there is a new plugin that we're hoping is on the money for this!
Tags currently work at an original post level, so we'll look at making that the case for individual posts too. So then in theory you can hashtag your WAYWT items to your hearts desire, and the results will be easily visible
Will update as testing gets underway!

@AdamJ sounds intriguing!
@goosehd i can deffo see your perspective and the potential headache this could cause. I wonder if perceiving it more as informal hashtagging rather than formalised/official Garment Tags may be the way to go?
For example if searching on a specific hashtag feed on a social media platform there will always be the outlier info/ random stuff in the feed that is not relevant, but on the whole you get what you need? I totally appreciate from a mod perspective it would become a huge problem if it were strictly monitored.Lots of creative folks here I imagine would create various hashtags to pick up on certain things that go beyond specific garment tags too? #doubleduck
WAYWT is such a fantastic thread it would be great to be able to essentially ‘filter’ pictures of certain garments ‘in the wild’ that likely didn’t make it to the individual garment threads due to members not wanting to X-post
