Whipcord N1 dilemma
-
Hello all,
New member/first post. I came across an amazing deal on a IHM-35-ODG N1 but I fear that it’s slightly too large for me. I read various posts prior to penning this question regarding washing/shrinking but can’t decide on a proper course of action. My question to the group is; shall I attempt a wash/shrink, and if so what is are the proper steps? Or would I be better served by just selling it and hoping I come across another deal? I appreciate any input and I’m excited to be involved with the group.

Post some photos so we can get a better idea about how it fits. This way you will get better informed opinions about the fit.

What is your height , weight, measurements etc and what size are you thinking of?
-
Looks like he already bought it because he is contemplating washing it to shrink it.

@stichdown-shell I’m 6’0 220lbs. This jacket is a XXXL.

@yannis Correct

@ditchdoctor15 I really don't think you will get much shrinkage out of whipcord unless you do a very hot wash. The issue I have heard is that it may/will distort the fabric in ways that you don't want. The other issue is that it may damage the neck lining in doing so.
I don't think it looks that big and may be good for layering in the colder months. However, you have to be comfortable with it and the decision is yours to make.
Personally, I would not wash it and either keep it as is, or move it on.

The sleeves are a little long but the rest sims ok to me unless you are planning to wear it with only a t- shirt. If that's the case you can size down one for a more fitted look. If you are planning to layer it with a flannel shirt or sweater then you have the right size. For your fyi i am 5"11 and a half? 240 pounds and wear xxxl also. Sleeves are long on me also.

@goosehd appreciate the response.

@yannis thank you for the response.

You are welcome

Ideally I think a XXL would be perfect for me. If I was to sell this, is the marketplace a good place to list this? Also what would be reasonable? This is new with tags (minus the try-on) and as I said is only be selling to reinvest in a different size.
-
@ditchdoctor15 Yes the marketplace is a good resource to use and if you choose to place an ad there, please follow these rules: https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/topic/15615/2024-updated-marketplace-rules

@Nik care to chime in on the matter? I read that you had previously shrunk your N1. Appreciate any input/jnfo.

How does it look & feel zipped? Maybe post a snap?
I think @yannis hit the nail on the head about layering. If you are going to wear an UHF or sweatshirt sizing down might be snug in the chest. Also need to consider how much mobility you need. I have an N1 (sz L) and it looks pretty fitted over an UHF but it is snug in the chest and shoulder so shoveling snow is a task done unzipped. -
@Anesthetist Thank you for the response. When the jacket is zipped I still have some room to spare. Ideally I would like a tighter fit and doubt that I’d wear it with an uhf or hoodie underneath at any point. I love the jacket but think I may need to size down.
-
Depends on how you want it to look. I wanted my indigo N1 to be beat up and fitted, so I washed it on the delicate cycle, and it tightened up, faded, and marbled. I like it, but since you have a new jacket, it is probably worth trying to sell first. Especially since you probably won't be wearing it for awhile? Shrinking through washing is unpredictable. Measurements don't lie.

It depends what you’re after. If you want to layer I think it’s a good fit. The sleeves are notoriously long on these jackets, so there’s not much you can do about that anyway. The XXL wouldn’t look that much different in the sleeve length IMHO.
I’d keep it!

@Nik thanks for responding. I honestly wouldn’t mind if the fabric faded at all. I obviously still want to wear and enjoy it and I definitely would hate to render it useless. It’s a tough call.
