Maybe it's a generational thing? Kind of like the soundtrack to your life, if you know what I mean? I never understood the hype around Nirvana, for example. Not a horrible band by any stretch of the imagination, but out of the big Seattle grunge bands they are the least impressive imo. Then again, I'm on the cusp age-wise for grunge, so it never played that big a part in my musical upbringing. Oasis on the other hand were very present in the mid to late 90ies, so exposure to them was much greater. Plus, I do like a few of their songs, sorry @endo (well, not really sorry, but I'm killing your joke here)

@Tago-Mago I wasn't really aware of/in to Nirvana until after Kurt Cobain had died. I ended up thinking it's insane how good they were, and how fucking brilliant Kurt Cobain was. In my opinion,up there with all the greats who died way to young/at 27.

I’m calling out for a deep and meaningful music conversation late on Saturday evening, when we’ve all had too much ‘enjoyment’ for the day.

I grew up in my early teens listening to a mix of nirvana grunge and early rave / house music
When oasis came around along with blur to a point it was almost a revelation to the most part young people in the uk, even when we already had the stone roses, suede the inspiral carpets, ocean colour scene, charlatans, happy Mondays, blue tones etc etc
They really did hit the mark with their attitude and relatability to the people of the time, it wasn’t grunge it wasn’t dance and it wasn’t r&b/hip hop
Apart from some songs I really think Noel is one of the best song writers of the generation and even more so since he started high flying birds
( half the world away, if I had a gun, dead in the water being some of the notable ones)
Sort not sorry for my appreciation of them
Although I would say an olive grove facing the sea by snow patrol is one of my favourites of all timeMods may need this to the music thread but may already be knee deep in denim flannels and gosport to do it

@Tago-Mago not my usual kind of thing but strangely the algorithm has been telling me for a few weeks that they’re performing in London in November. Had a listen in the car this morning and I’m on the fence. Worth seeing live?
-
@Tago-Mago thanks. I’ll have a think. I might do another “music week” in late November exploring new (to me) bands/artists and venues across consecutive nights. This is an option for the starting point.
