@Tago-Mago or maybe in matters of taste, you soon find some people have it and others don’t!
Actually, I think you and @mclaincausey are right but if I can’t be slightly provocative on this thread (knowing full well I’m on thin ice with my musical tastes) where can I?
-
@Tago-Mago something like that!
-
@mclaincausey @Tago-Mago - oh my
i'm not a music critic and this is unpopular opinions...but i will kind of explain myself. it is not kid A example, but, lets take karma police, as the biggest hit they did. you blokes know your music, so you heard sexie sadie before that. nothing wrong with borrowing couple of riffs, of course, but i remember when i heard it first time, after 20 seconds i knew where the song is going, when they're going to change and so on. predictable. i fking love melvins, and when they hit they stride i know how dale crover is going to hit the drums because i'm consuming that for the last 30 years. so you can say its a bit predictable, but it has also kick ass guitars and strange little melodies and vocal lines that makes it alltogether awesome in my mind. you mentioned Eno, who i really appreciate a lot, and i could see kid A as an atmospheric piece, with no guitars and going for emotional charge and whatnots.
when this album was released i was 26, 27 something like that, so it did not sit with me because i was not into that kind of emotions, and when i hear a song for 10-15 seconds and i know whats going to happen, when they are going to change and more or less everything else, it makes it predictable. unfortunate adjective, i should explain better -
@prpx I was just messing with you and tried to come up with a witty reply to the unpredictable comment .
I'm no Radiohead expert, and my favourite album of theirs is OK Computer anyway. When Radiohead made it big in the mid to late 90s I didn't get the hype at all, and didn't follow their progression in depth after OK Computer. I got into that album during Covid because it resonated with me during that time. The feeling of desolation, loneliness and a general disconnect within society that Thom Yorke articulated in some of the songs felt very apropos at the time
-
Yeah I did the same with Kid A and am doing the same with OK Computer now. The Bends next.
Haven’t listened to them in ages so I’m grateful for the opinions ITT.
-
@prpx hey you owe me no explanation, I can completely understand Radiohead are polarizing and not for everyone. This is unpopular opinions!
Speaking of which, not sure if we covered this previously, but I strongly dislike Oasis.
-
@mclaincausey thinking about that song through the lens of emo makes it make more sense. Gosh darn it I’m going to listen to Kid A tomorrow.
-
@mclaincausey Bold of you to take a stand against Oasis on the year of the fabled reunion. I have to say I agree with you though.
I hope it's not all that unpopular but, I stand by the statement that Gorillaz beats Oasis and Blur every time.
-
@Shaun I do love me some Gorillaz. Finally got to see them a while back. Great times!

@Giles said in Unpopular opinions:
Let's trash another British band.
The Rolling Stones are awful. And the Beatles before the drugs aren’t much better.
-
@goosehd I didn’t say I don’t like Radiohead. I happen to love their first three albums! They lost their way after OK Computer.
And I like The Beatles when they started getting away from the bubblegum pop sound of their early years. The drugs helped them a lot.
Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest bands of all time.

@mclaincausey wait wat?! the Gorillaz are actual PEOPLE?!
