Training my ginkgo.
I love bonsai!
How long have you been training this one? The SURFACE roots look GREAT!
Any more trees to show off?????

Yeah, it's a fine-looking tree… but I'm afraid I can't take any credit for that, as I've only had it for a year now! Bought it at the Minnesota Bonsai society's fall auction last year. I actually wrote a little essay after buying it, as I came to own it in really a very touching way. I could probably search said essay out and post it in the random announcements thread, in case it warms the cockles of anyone else's heart. My cockles were thoroughly warmed by the whole deal. So anyway... My main goal is really not to kill it and train it as best I can within the limits of my ability. It already made it through one harsh Minnesota winter, so I'm off to a decent start!
I just have the two bonsai. The ginkgo outside and a little ficus inside. Though I'd like to acquire some more down the line. You got any nice snaps of your own to share?

I don't have any of my own, but I am a fan of the artform…
I mean, I've tried a few times with nursery stock, but have killed 3 trees doing so.
If I ever end up back in Japan, I'll find a nice old oji san to teach me the ways of bonsai.

Yeah, nursery stock can be surprisingly tricky to shape and then keep alive. I hacked into a juniper last year and got a lovely little semi-cascade going, then it snuffed it during the winter.

Absolutely beautiful!!!
