Photograph and Camera talk

I doubt it… I haven't seen any Leica discussions here. But there's plenty of respected Leica folks around. Where are you in the world Guillaume, and what kind of Leica are you shooting that needs work?
Edit: a click of your username suggests you're around NYC... Sherry Krauter of Golden Touch is probably gonna be the one you want then. There are folks in the city of course, but Sherry is one of the most highly respected repairpersons in the country. If you're shooting a screwmount or an M that doesn't take any batteries, Youxin Ye is in Boston and well respected, cheaper and faster than Sherry but technically I don't think he's an authorized repairman.

thanks, ill look into golden touch, never heard of it before though. the only real place i know of around my area is nippon and they are a bunch of rip offs. cost me a close to a new pair of iron heart jeans last time to get my last camera fixed. but now i seem to have a problem with my m6. the lightmeter does not seem to work. usually i would not care but it is my night time camera for a project that im doing and the environment im in doesnt really give me a good sense of light if that makes any sense

i love that. going to try and work that line in somewhere next time. "that sh#t cost me as much as a pair of IH"

I hear ya Guillaume. Of course you know anything to do with Leica is not gonna be cheap - it's like driving an Aston Martin, just changing the oil is expensive.
Call up Sherry and tell her what's going on and she'll quote you a price. Good luck.
Now, all that said, of course you've tried a fresh battery in the M6…

Glad there are other people here using film. What's the best place to buy it in NYC? Flying there on Thursday and don't want to take a bunch through the xray machines.
It depends, if you want to be treated like cattle go to B&H. But if you go to K&M and say B&H sells it for cheaper you will get it at that price. Plus we actually try to help our customers out, everyone there has a interest in art/photography or is a student in that field major so we all know our stuff when it comes down to it. B&H, "What do you want? Ok, Here your ticket go to that line. Next"

of course, i feel that it has something to do with the shutter release. the m6 light meter responds to that when press down ever so slightly. i believe something is wrong there.

Nice pictures man! How's your nose doing from all those chemicals? Haha!

Didn't bother me any but my wife said I stink… She has a nose like a bloodhound though.
On a related topic: any opinions in regards to Leica X-1?
(Was playing around with it in the stores today…)Seems highly overpriced for what you actually get. From what I can tell other cameras with similar form and features are less than half the price.

On a related topic: any opinions in regards to Leica X-1?
(Was playing around with it in the stores today…)I'm really a Leica-man myself, but didn't like the X1 at all. I tried it briefly, a guy who bought my M8 was offering it to me as a trade. Instead I went for the Ricoh GXR and couldn't be happier with it.

will look into this - sounds promising.
(I used to be a Rollei-man back in the day until my Rollei 35 broke and I gave up. now, I am at the point where I want to pick it up again - could/should get my Rollei's fixed and look into digital a bit more seriously, but a Leica M8 or M9 is way too much…)

The Leica P&S cameras are pretty much rebadged Panasonics. As such, you pay a premium for the red dot.
Ricoh makes great compacts.
are you sure about X-1 being a rebadged Panasonics?
(regarding Leica D-Lux and V-Lux 20 you should be right…)nope, X1 is made in germany and it's 100% leica's design (AFAIK)
