Changes to The Marketplace
-
I see a lot of "agree" comments, but it's sort of a pain in the butt. I have come here before and purchased an item, but now I want to sell something and cannot. I get that spam issues happen, but I'm not one for talking a lot about my clothes, let alone others and this means if I want to sell buy or sell something that's not new I have to use one of those other sites that charge an arm and a leg.
Thanks for letting me get a +1 on my count to 20.

John,
As has been acknowledged this will affect a minority of individuals negatively. But this is not a sales site. It is a community. Those that are part of the community now have access to the Marketplace as a perk, and have to worry less about scam and spam. It therefore affects the majority of individuals, those that contribute to the community, positively.
It is a shame this has impacted you. No one likes getting something for nothing, only to have that taken away. However, by your own admission, you are not interested in being part of the community.

Hey man,
I have no qualms about being a part of a community or not. My biggest complaint with the decisions is how it impacts my patience (obviously a "me" thing). After selling an Indigo/Black CPO the other day and incurring two separate fees from one of those "other" sites, which were quite hefty, I was reminded of the good experience I had here on the forum with a fellow member. Thus, I came and, of course, found the change in place.
All that being said, thanks for letting me complain, and I'm looking forward to being an inconsistent contributor to the community.

Thank you for expressing your opinion and acknowledging the personal level of the inconvenience. Your contributions, inconsistent or otherwise are welcome.

I need to get my post count up so here goes….
It might be too complicated but maybe different parameters for selling IH gear or non IH gear.
I realise that this would rule out multiple listings but perhaps that’s not a bad thing?
I currently have an IH item for sale and for a genuine reason.
I wouldn’t come on here and expect to sell other brands for free.
There are other places to do that.
These thoughts are mine and obviously can be disagreed with. -
We dont really mind what gets sold here (I've sold a PC in the past), what we do mind is:
- People ontributing nothing to the community. The marketplace is a resource that we created to benefit our members, never did we dream that it would become a place where people would just come to sell stuff. Yes, I am more than happy to be called naive….
- Scammers/fraudsters ripping off our members
We are not a professional sales site, we do not have staff whose job it is to monitor sales, we do not have software to help us identify frauds, and we get pulled in to sort shit out between sellers and buyers, and if a member gets ripped off we get the blame and the ripped-off party leaves with a bad taste in their mouth....

The following has been stated before in the thread but I’m willing to repeat myself as I realise people may not make the effort to read.
1. This is a measure to disrupt scammers and spammers.
2. It is a workaround which affects a minority of people who aren’t part of the community but use the forum for one of its secondary functions. That is acceptable to us (and the majority of the community).
3. This forum is run on outdated software by a handful of mods and IHUK employees who all have day jobs. The measures you suggest would take advanced software or a dedicated round then clock team to implement.
4. This measure is not forever. -
I thought it always personal buy and sell at your own risk. I don't see how IH responsible for fraud or unhappy transactions and pull them in.
It is good IH steps in and help prevent frauds and thank you. -

I really try to not have an online presence anywhere. Obviously, this is very hard to achieve 100% as the interwebs must be used as a tool in some ways. Case in point, I regularly use this forum as a means for research (utilizing the experiences, opinions, and knowledge of members who are willing to share through posts), creative ideas, entertainment, and only once to purchase an item. I did browse the sales section often out of curiosity. I have my favorite topics that I go to a few times a week, I guess that is why it took me a minute to figure out what happened to the member sales section.
While I don't disagree that measures need to be made to combat scammers, it does bum me out that I am now left feeling less of a part of this great community. I also understand that being an observer and information gatherer can be looked at as a non-contributor.
Whether or not the community agrees with me, I feel that I am an important piece to the puzzle. I almost exclusively purchase IH (mainly through local and US based retailers), I regurlarly speak to my choice of clothing excitedly to whomever is listening, and I consume the knowledge delivered here.
Just my long winded two cents! Perhaps this is is just written as a means to crawl to 20…...I'll get there.
