One of the people I was really looking forward to meeting irl at the recent IH party was the beardy dank magus himself @Oaktavia.
It was an absolute pleasure to talk to him and Amanda, and on the last day I got to ask him a personal favour. I have recently moved to a new apartment and after the ups and downs of the last few years own very little art of my own. The idea of having something @Oaktavia had painted had been with me for a while, so I was very happy to feel comfortable enough to bring it up.
@oaktavia got in touch a few days after the party and we worked things out in short time. So I am now the proud owner of two original Orrence’s, and that makes me so fucking happy. Updates to come when they are hung.

@neph93 the same goes to my irl friend. You were the first person I talked to on the forum over five years ago. I was looking so forward to meeting you at the party, as we have much in common and the conversations happened naturally already. Believe it or not folks, Reuben is even more charming and charismatic in person. Honored to have such a humbling endorsement from someone I respect so much in this denim game. Thank you sir for not only supporting my artistic endevors, but your wisdom, wit and tact here on the forum. We only get one Reuben y'all.

@neph93 feck yes!!!
@Oaktavia my favorite pieces I’ve seen from you man. LOVE the line variation and the pallet used for the skin tones… works damn well against that warm/exposed wood backdrop.Thanks so much man, I appreciate that specific feedback. Both were painted in San Francisco of Californians I met there who were kind enough to be models and sit for hours for paintings. I strongly feel that painting from life observation is a better practice than using a photo as a reference. Mixing sophisticated colors is important to me too as is varied line weight using different types of charcoal.

@flannel-slut i saw them in photo’s before they were sent and the warmth of them was obvious already, but having them in hand is a whole new paradigm. They are not just warm, beautiful images but the medium and surface used makes them truly wonderful objects. There is a tactile element to this work that makes them far more than skillfully painted images.
