When you suddenly feel old —
-
My first day of softball with a new team this year, and I was talking to the pretty young looking in shape pitcher about what other positions he plays and other softball related stuff.
Feeling fairly in shape and young to be on the field at all myself at 43. Then I hear "dad, what position am I?" and it was his 20 year old son walking up to us.
Immediately felt old

Interesting topic as had been thinking about this yesterday actually. turning 40 this year. It’s not so much the age thing but where “I am in life”. Maybe there is a separate forum for this, as it’s not the most applicable to the topic but in some sense it is cause I’m “feeling old”. Most things seem dull, my job is not motivating and unsatisfying (though paid generally very well) and generally just feel in a rut. Not depression, been there several times, but think it’s the culmination of coming out of more “exciting” periods in nyc in 20s/30s and now in suburbs of Atlanta. 2.5 year old and a second on the way. Stuck feeling cause so much responsibility to take care of everyone. Different vibes to the feeling old comments above but feel lots of this is likely the “stage” of my life. Maybe others feel different. I’m not even old. Guess that feels good to get off my chest a bit. Feel free to move if not right topic.

Guys the trouble really starts with 50
I was super fit, but after a knee surgery and 2 times Corona I‘am really struggling to get back in form . Now I‘am 51 and hope it gets better this year . -
Saw a picture of myself from 10 years ago the other day. As much as I might tell myself otherwise, I don’t look exactly the same!
On the other hand, @jfk1117 has a point. I have much more freedom than I did a few years ago, some external pressures have been lifted, and I discovered this place, so there’s definitely some reverse aging going on (even if it’s invisible from the outside).

Tbh I love not being 20something anymore, am 33 years old and I live the best life ever .. but what really hurts sometimes is when people I assume are my age adress me with a formal "Sie"..

@FlavourFade also 33. I'm as a fit and active as I've ever been, but I do feel those looming symptoms of aging... stiff knees in the morning (and the uncontrollable urge to pee the moment my eyes open!)

Good thread! I’m 38 this year, have definitely noticed changes to how I feel creeping in. I cannot drink copious amounts of booze without paying for it to the point that it rarely seems worth it. A full sugar coke will leave me feeling nauseous now, while I I used to down energy drinks like water in my early twenties .
In other ways I still feel surprised that I’m approaching 40. I still couldn’t give a shit about work despite having a decent job with a reasonably high salary. While other people my age are planning the next career move, I’m more interested in what music I’m listening to, what I’m gonna eat for lunch, or what book to read next. Sometimes I worry that I’m letting opportunities, and therefore life, pass me by. But we’ll all by pushing up daisies at some point, might as well try to extract some humble pleasure or joy from day-to-day existence rather than chase the next thing. -
@jerkules I think you touch on a good point. Everyone is so concerned with climbing up the ladder, competing with the neighbours, and trying to out selfie each other, that no one is truly enjoying day to day life.
Enjoy what you have to the fullest and I think you’ll experience true happiness.
