IH-555-03 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Jeans - Superblack (Fades To Grey)
-
I have this iteration of the 555 SBG. So I wanted to post here and not under the new tag. I just recently purchased these off the outlet and have a couple fit questions. Waist is marked 30 but measures 33 so they fit at the waist. However, front pockets are pretty darn difficult to get my hands into compared to my 555 XHSIB. I can lift my legs practically 90 degrees. I can squat. So my question is: is this denim just very difficult to break in or do I need a larger size? FYI my waist size in the 555 is definitely a 33.

From my understanding they are a bit tougher to stretch than the 21s but they do if you put time in them. You should get about an inch of stretch in the waist. Sounds from what you are saying that they are tight at the hip. Maybe a member with more experience in those can chime in.

Thanks. And I think you're right they are tighter in the hip. Front pockets are almost useless.

Sometimes when I have jeans like that I put a couple pairs of socks (folded on themselves) in the pockets and sit "Indian-style".

I remember front pockets on a pair of 666 were like that when new. It wasn't tight in the waist or legs or anything, just the front pockets were like those Chinese finger traps when trying to retrieve stuff. They did break in over time so keep using them or try filthy's suggestion to speed up the process.

Thanks so much @RoxRocks86 and @Filthy. I got these for a steal like I said and I don't want to get rid of them. I will try Filthys suggestion.
And yes exactly like a Chinese finger trap!

Wearing them wet kicks the stretch into overdrive. I also sometimes wear some cut off sweatpants to stretch the top block on stuff. This idea has been ridiculed by my peers. But it works. You can get a cheap pair at Walmart for $5 and chop them off at the knee. I use a garbage quality pair of Left Field I got that I hated.
I think maybe my comment was unclear: I wear the sweatpants under the jeans and button up everything but the top button.

May have to try that. I have plenty of gym shorts that are or should be out of commission.

So, did you size down 3 to get a tag size 30? I’m confused by the waist size 33 comment. If you sized down that significantly, they may just be too small. I always compare the thigh size first and foremost, because that’s a tricky measurement for me. Good luck!

Um yes. They were in the outlet. Tag size is 30 but actual measurement was 33. I'm typically tag size 32. I know there were some issues with tag size on these pants.
I only made that mistake once with Iron Heart. First time I bought I bought by tag size and went with 33 and that pair was a little large. Had success with my XHSIB by going off the actual measurements.

I like your suggestion with the sweat pants and might give it a go.
I scored the Self Edge like-new version of these slim fade-to-black for a ridiculously low and impossible-to-pass-up $150 and they are now part of my weekly rotation. That day I was truly blessed by multiple gods from multiple religions.
I sometimes throw this pair on right after a shower and without drying my legs. Expect a struggle as they won't simply slide on, that's for sure. Then I do some morning stretches and wear them through them through as much of the day as possible until the breaking-in discomfort becomes too much of a distraction. Might change into a far more comfortable pair of overdyed 634s I own and which are well broken in (slow fader, though) after having done occasional farm work in them. Also, I run out into a rain storms with my denim, from time-to-time, and this helps with loosening the fabric but try not to get them too wet as I don't know whether softening them too much affects the fade potential. Who the hell cares though, right?
With the added sweat pants to help me stretch the top block a bit hopefully it can help me to not feel like I'm crammed into a sausage casing.
Also, looking at @AdamJ 's posting is a great inspiration to keep going. … and love the look and condition of that leather patch. Might be a good idea for me to treat my own leather patches as I'm noticing how nice it can look.

Good job!

Ten months, one soak, just washed, worn a lot, and still stiff. Like armour on the upper thigh. My 555-01, by contrast, unwashed, five months wear, are soft and very pliable. Guess it's the dye, right? Or the fabric? Both?
