IHW-01 (Melton Wool shirt)

erm, do you think I would hold out on a scoop like that?
Had to check! Thought maybe it hadn't been mentioned yet. Just wishful thinking…

@yen:
Cotton version in black and navy…....
No preview pics of the cotton version?

Not sleeping on the black this year. Picking it up the moment it hits. I've been wearing the shit out of the blue one from last year. My favorite piece of clothing by far.

here is another item that we have seemed to be begging for.
think i'll go with the grey, might be some blood spilled when this arrives. . .

Thought we could use this image again. Drooooooooooooooooooooooool. Come to papa!
Thought we could all use the image…
The return of the Melton (IHW-01). You wanted Charcoal Grey? You got it…...........And notice the detail change from previous years, satin lined yoke..........

damn, i'm really thinking if it felt warmer to me. at the moment i can't say it did. i'll tell you for sure when it gets cold again jb
-
I would say easily twice as warm.
It tends to retain heat a lot more than the flannel.
Walking briskly with this thing on will make you sweat.I would actually say the complete opposite. I find that the IH medium to heavyweight flannel shirts are much hotter than the wool. There is a reason the IHW-01 is my favorite IH top, because I am most comfortable in any weather with one on. Just my opinion, sorry if I confused you. I just think this shirt is the most versatile shirt in the whole IH catalog, that is why I will be getting my third and definitely not my last!
I just re read that paragraph and it sounds awful, but hopefully you get my point. Too tired atm to correct it.

I think the fundament difference between this and the ultra heavy flannels is that this is wind proof. On a fair day in January I can ski in this in the alps…...
It really reminds me of a thinner version of the classic norwegian woolen outer wear (vadmel) (http://www.feldbluse.de/assets/images/FeldbluseM40-1.jpg). Perfect for conditions like this: http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/035/5/3/winter_storm_iv_by_cainadamsson-d38aygt.jpg

So next time I'm on fire I won't be afraid to jump in a pool, even though I won't be burning too badly.
Wool is special because it keeps you warm even if it is wet. I wouldn't go so far as to call it water resistant. But anything is better than cotton.
I find the Melton warmer than the flannel.

wind proof & water repellant sound good to me. still not sure about it being warmer than my 20 (the only heavy weight flannel i have been able to wear when it was actually cold out).
i tend to wear my IHW-01 with another Iron Heart shirt under it & a tee. my 20 i tend to wear with just a tee . . . so it's kind of apples & oranges for me & hard for me to compare them since i don't wear them the same way.
one thing i think we agree on is you can't go wrong with a IHW-01.
drpat, i thought you were into being on fire ???
