IH-666-UHR - Ultra Heavy - Devil's Fit (Slim Cut)
-
@Oaktavia I agree with @Nkwkfld that tapering and a waist reduction are two separate things. If you were determined to make the jeans work then taking in the waist would be a practical solution. Tapering is a purely aesthetic thing.
Personally, I’m not a fan of tapering. If the leg doesn’t fit how I like, I’d rather not bother, and find another pair that fits better. I know it is popular with a people who want IH but want a smaller hem, but it doesn’t rhyme for me. Just my opinion. I know there are guys here who have done it and are happy, so I’m glad for them and my opinion shouldn’t mean a thing in that case.
I will say that, in line with what @sabergirl says, I’ve never seen a a pair that has been tapered aftermarket that looks really good to my eyes. Even pairs tailored by Indigo Proof (who do great work) tend to look a little off.
By the same token, a waist alteration is going to change the way the whole top block fits. It may work out for you, it may not. At the end of the day, if you aren’t going to wear them as they are it may be a case of weighing up the alternatives. Money and time on a fit that may work, but may not, or moving them on and loosing out on a pair of classic jeans.
I’ve already said I like the look of them and think they suit you, and I’ll stick to that. But I’m not the one wearing them. Over to you bud.

Cool, cool all of this makes sense and especially with your reiterations, Reuben. Thank you all again for the advice. After reading through everything posted a couple of times, I think I'll stick with what I've got. I just tried them back on and I actually dig the way the fit looks and if I were to send them in, I would only alter the waist. At this point though, it seems like not messing with them is best.
I suppose I was unsure if a loose waist mattered or not. I am just not used to the bunching up that happens. I can shift the folds around the waist a bit, and I bet when I wear them (after the Indigo Invitational) often the folds will find a place to stay put. It does not interfere with comfort. This cut and denim is for sure the most comfortable pair I have. Who knows, with all the beer I drink, I will likely grow into the waist a bit more.
Anyway, this has been another episode of…Overthinking Things...see you next time.

I would also shy away from surgical modification. But they are a size too big and that makes the evolutionary process a bit different from a spot on fit. I myself had to call it quits on a pair of 32” UHR because the extra room in the thighs turned into wicked long creases that I couldn’t tolerate. The extra fabric had to do something and since the jeans were basically raw, there was no way I could wear them and eliminate the thigh creases from fading. If these were prewashed Levi’s they would just be baggy, and since the denim would be washed out, there would be no risk of awful creasing. It’s the raw to faded evolution that makes it a challenge. With all that said, I think treating these like a denim art project like your lefty jacket won’t work as flawlessly. Maybe treat these like work pants, or go for a more frequently washed look without wearing them while wet to avoid huge unpleasant creases in the areas that don’t fit as perfectly. If you can get them to the pajama stage without them creasing terribly, then you might have an extraordinarily comfortable and useful pairs of pants. Since they’ve already been hot washed and dried, there shouldn’t be much more shrinkage. So if you can just wear them and wash them grow to love them. I have a pair of 30” 814’s and they are too big for awesome fade patterns, but they go everywhere with me and take a beating and still eventually fade beautifully, just not with complex creases and honeycombs. Wear in good health as we say

@adam313 right on dude that is what I will do. They already feel like PJ'S that are too big, like with the drawstring pulled tight. Not ideal, but damn cozy. So I will see how they evolve, be it different than a well fitted pair. I'm looking forward to it at this point. Ty for your insight.
