I dunno man, the side effects sound terrifying.

Put a picture of the little one on each pack of cigarettes and maybe on all your lighters?
EDIT: Awesome thread idea btw.

Mcl - I thought about using the boy as motivation, and it isn't a bad shout to be fair.
4C - Cost, health…...mainly cost. I don't like literally burning money.

I'm an occasional smoker as well.
I've found that cutting certain people (i.e. those who smoke), places (i.e. places where everyone smokes) and pastimes (i.e. DRINKING) out of my life reduces the desire to smoke to about nil.
A daily running regime also helps. Desire to smoke is seriously weakened if you are made to feel its effects on your lungs through a little physical exertion.

That is also a good shout Chiba, I was getting some good level of fitness back before this evil habit reared its head again. Now my exercise has trailed off, so perhaps picking it back up will make me "feel" the effects of smoking.

I suppose one thing that may help is to try to not view yourself as a smoker (but rather smoking as an action) and concentrate on viewing each and every step involved in smoking as a choice. IE getting into the car, starting the engine, driving to the store, going in, reaching for a pack, buying them, opening the pack, taking out cigarettes, putting them in the mouth, taking out lighter, opening lighter, lighting up, etc…
I know this sounds rather simple, but often addictions are just doing things without thinking about them as choices.

Hi Mega, great thread idea.
I was 10-15 rollies (roll your own for the non Brits) a day pre champix and could, if will power was a strength of mine I would have given up without a problem. Loved the health benefits, felt good, a pleased wife and thought due to the drug effects of champix that cigarettes were a mingin thing of the past.
I stopped taking it (a tad early) and had a social smoke and unfortunately the love was rekindled!! Arse! But I'm still smoking a dam site less than I was an intend on keeping that way and improving on it gradually with work on the strength of my weeel power!
The points I was trying to make was: Champix wasn't as scary as I had read about and if you ate as level headed as you seem, you'd be fine, I was a bit knarky for a couple of weeks buy it relaxed…...should check that with my better half really. And secondly, if you have managed to give up for the lengths of time you have already........then....you van dooo it!
on the other hand I'm an ex paramedic and went to a lot of 90+ year olds that were on 40 a day with no other meds.
Go figure. Good luck if you do though, I shall read with interest:)
Now, can anyone help me get over the must have nice clobber issues I seem to have developed over the past few years

I think that distraction works well for me, I feel an urge to smoke whilst at work so I'm thinking that I can use my upcoming break to Barcelona as a week long distraction.
Thanks for all the help and tips so far guys.

How do I get laid more?
Any advice on that?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Now that you have a kid, that's not gonna happen. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

@mega how did you resolve your chronic masturbation issue?

@bagley all married men with infants have the same issue. Just don't get carried away like mega.
