Let me ask a noob question. How do you guys protect suede / rough out leather? Silicon spray, and an occasional suede brush? Don't think we can use any products like Obenauf's Oil/LP because they will gum up and darken the leather. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Obenauf's doesn't gum it up but will darken it for sure. These started off very very light, now…

I don't use any sprays since they tend to affect the breathability of the leather. Just a brush now and then after the shoes have dried if they've gotten wet. Roughout collects stains and dirt like no other, it's just something you'll have to live with.

Is it possible to order something for the Viberg 301 last, like these: (http://onlinevintageinfo.blogspot.com/2011/11/horsehide-viberg-service-boots.html) ?

shanks, take a look at this train wreck if you have free time
(I know it's titled whites, it morphed to a viberg buy)

yep but hardly matters, they're doing so much business with japan, and the custom makeups with the various shops
I think you can still call them up and get a custom boot made, there certainly will be a wait, I think it's really the horse that is pretty much impossible to get them to do custom

Sadly, you are probably correct. I'm actually not to bothered about horse-hide, it's the square toe of the service boot I like. Do you know if they can do it in an alternative leather, e.g., Chrome Excel by Horoween, or does the 301 last only work with the horse hide leather?

Chrome Excel, 310 last, as army or service boot - no problem.
Getting a feedback from Viberg might be a problem…go through an established dealer or retailer like Ultrasoundboots or Giles.
HH as a single custom job - unlikely.Current wait time: +12 weeks...

And as fate has it, I dropped a healthy dose of mayo on the other boot when I was eating a burger. I guess I had that coming. One ugly ass stain right in the middle of the upper part of the toebox. I'll do my best to get it out.
