Random Rants

If I paid for faster shipping I definitely would have e-mailed by now. I suppose a better strategy for retailers would be to not send out "Your items been shipped" e-mails until the item has actually been shipped, not just had a label stuck to the box.

I’m a perfectly normal sized male. Why doesn’t Stevenson Overall make anything large enough to fit me whilst at the same time making things I like?!

@der:
„Froomey“ was/is up to his eyeballs in chemicals and will be eventually be Landis-ed.
@der Anschiss He's just another Lance Armstrong ? The asthma inhaler is just the tip of the iceberg you think?

The rest of the top ten would need to have their doctors with them as well. Every GC contender is juiced to the gills.

I read Tyler Hamiltons book a few years ago and in that he said, if you don't get on board with what the the rest of the peloton are doing, you may as well give up your cycling career.

That does not make it right…..And I am not on a moral crusade here. BUT:

I had an interview with a major technology company from Sydney in February. They replied yesterday, after three months, that I wasn't suited for the role, but were unable to provide feedback.
C'mon, if you don't want someone, at least reply quickly.
Thats a poor showing by them. The job interview process is so formal. The interviewer requires such a high level of formality from the interviewee. And then they break from that formality by not giving you an answer in a timely fashion or with enough information to keep that formality that they have required in the first place. Sorry Graeme. You deserved a proper timely reply

@Graeme it's bullshit. even if you had a large pool. 3-7 working days should be a professional standard. i understand it may be quite the work thinning out the unwanted. but 3 months. wow.

Thanks @der Anschiss, @Matty123, and @louisbosco.
The lack of feedback is annoying. I'm continually crashing out of the process on the first round, behavioural interviews that are the current fashion for HR departments. I'm at the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum, and I feel as though these work against me in some way.
It's particularly frustrating when I'm probably more technically competent than a lot of people working in these businesses.

You were handled / managed in a unprofessional and disgusting manner @Graeme but I am not surprised as I too have had a similar experience and I’m certain others on this forum have too.

@Graeme - if you ever want to move to CA, my best friends sister works for Google - she was one of the original 15 at YouTube when it launched.
Let me know if you ever want me to connect you two.

@Giles it probably should help in my work, and some companies (such as Microsoft) make an effort to hire people on the spectrum.
The trouble is that HR departments have a rigid idea of what makes a good programmer. As @der Anschiss said, it's typically someone with little idea of what the job involves, but often a pretty rigid idea of what a good programmer looks like. So it's a checkbox ticking exercise to find someone with those characteristics.
The other issue is that the behavioural interview style (that I'm also ranting about) doesn't suit. I'm typically too honest, and I'm not great at social imagination (figuring out what someone else is thinking or reading their emotional state). So a question like, "Tell us about a problem you ran into" won't result in me describing how I single handedly saved a project from disaster. [emoji20]
@Appfaff working at Google would be interesting. Unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't fancy moving to the US.

Riding your bicycle on a roadway is not a leisure activity!
I mean, thank you for doing your part to save the environment and all, but that doesn't make it okay for you to ruin traffic for the rest of us. Seriously, if you can't maintain a reasonable speed for an extended period of time, you should reconsider your mode of transportation.

Car repairs suck so much. I pulled in too close to a curb when parking the other day. Then when I backed out, the front bumper cover snagged and pulled completely off. It's just a big piece of plastic that clips onto the car, but it costs over a thousand dollars to replace it.
No big deal. I didn't really need to pay rent this month…
