Guitars anyone???
-
I'm not a big Van Halen guy, but I do of course think he was a hugely important guitarist.
SKT and I def have some crossover — I'm a huge fan of Ry Cooder, and love Blake Mills and Mark Knopfler.
Some other faves that come immediately to mind (I'm sure there are countless others I'll wanna add):
Neil Young
Mike Campbell
Bill Frisell
Aarto Lindsay
Marc Ribot
Jonny Greenwood
Hubert Sumlin
Prince
Grant Green
Andy Gill
Graham Coxon
Jason IsbellI could talk about guitars and guitarists forever haha… careful getting me started

@Jett129 yes SIR! His playing sounds so springy and electric to me, really cuts.

Saw Hubert Sumlin a couple of times with the Allman Bros, and they would usually do 44 Blues, but by that time he could barely play. There was a great tribute concert called Howlin for Hubert,a lot which can be found on YouTube. Speaking of the Allman Bros, Duane Allman would be in my top 5 or 10. Feel like he’s been forgotten.

Duane would be on my list. Dickey too. My dad’s an Allmans nut, so I was raised on that stuff — their first album is my fave, particularly love the Beginnings mix. Don’t Want You No More into It’s Not My Cross to Bear is one of my favorite musical performances, ever. Unbelievably good.

Oh man, very cool! Old stuff?

Oh man I'm sure I'd love to check some of those out sometime. I wonder if any of them have Jack Pearson on them — I'm not sure when exactly he played with them, but it was for a short stint, might've been in the 90s, even. Anyway, he's insanely good, really one of the best guitarists I've ever seen. If you've ever seen that Gregg Allman tribute concert that airs on AXS sometimes, Jack's his band leader. Really understated looking guy, playing a cheap Fender Squier and blowing everyone else off the stage.

Derek Trucks is easily in my top 5 favorite living guitarists. I really love Tedeschi Trucks Band and think they’re among the best live acts out there. That said, I do miss Derek Trucks Band and its more jazzy and world music orientation. They would not be quite the same without Yonrico Scott and Kofi Burbridge (both huge losses for music) should they ever reunite.
I do have a poster signed by TTB, The Wood Brothers, and Hot Tuna:

Speaking of Derek and Eric, I've seen TTB do a great cover of "Anyday." Derek really is an insane player. His understanding of slide is mind-boggling to me.

Decided I wanted something with more strings so have got one of these on the way
Treating it as a project guitar, the plan being to chuck a set of sperzel machineheads, tusk nut and bareknuckle polymaths on it, and get a really thorough set up done. Then I’ll be able to play Meshuggah to my heart’s content -
Nice. Love LTD instruments. Whats the scale length? And tuning? Cant say ive seen an 8 string before.

Love seeing the gear thread here. Huge Allman Bros head as well…
Here is some of my gear.
Brand new Bass Half & Half made by the Milkman. Absolutely love this thing. Been gigging with it lately and its the sound I've wanted for years
This is my Fender MIJ J Bass. 84 I think… Just about every show I've played has been with this guy. I've bought many basses and I always get rid of them and go back to my true blue. It's my best friend
Random tele I put together over covid. Put a lollar lapsteel pickup on the bridge and a goldfoil on the neck. It's super cool but I don't really play it too much…
