IH-777-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Indigo
-
Very nice evolution there @kkibbey23. I haven't start wearing mine, still do the 666 XHS rotation atm, would probably start wearing this sweet madness in November/December. First try on is very nice, all measurement just as I wanted (forgot to take a pic).

First post.
25oz acquired after a number of pairs of 18oz jeans.
These look fantastic and will give me some hard breaking in work to do during hopefully the end of lockdown and also before Summer temps.
Strangely whilst they’re thick & sturdy they’re not quite as scary in the flesh as I was worried they may be before purchase. Maybe I will change my mind in the coming weeks
Big shout to Team Ironheart UK for all the help on sizing. Much appreciated.

Had to wash these at 40 to get 1 inch shrink..
30 didn’t do much!
Perfect now

They weren't tight at all when I first tried them on otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered to soak / wash.
Having worn them for a day they’re a lot easier to wear than I expected. Think I could have got away with sizing down as the top block feels a little looser than I like although I’m thinking they will fall better once they've have broken in - the stiffness is maybe accentuating this.
The denim is super nice though - fantastic jeans. Pocket lining is a nice touch.

Easter fit pics on Day 2 with a bit of cheeky man boob thrown in. Need to leave off the lockdown beers

The waist feels comfy / right now I think, so I know I could have definitely gone a half size down. There is a little bit of bagginess in the top block which I would prefer not to have.
I took my measures from some old PBJs but I think they have a low density weave which stretches like mad so I probably should have accounted for that. Oddly the 250z denim is a hell of a lot more comfy than some of my other 18oz jeans which I’m surprised at.
I did get them hemmed to my usual length - I like quite a short cuff so there is still room for manoeuvre.
Thanks for the positive responses! It’s lovely & sunny here and beer o’clock has finally arrived

This denim has piqued my interest since discovering IH, but reading how hot and heavy they are was definitely not a piece of clothing practical to my climate. That was the same thing I thought about UHF’s, but they’ve been pretty handy at times. So since everything is in such disarray nowadays anyways the most sensible thing to do was buy a pair! Makes sense, yeah?
Got these a few weeks ago but just took measurements and sent them off to Indigo Proof for a full leg taper. Just got them back the other day, took some pics, & hot washed them to get any shrink out.

Measurements taken Indigo Proof way:
I can honestly say that out of all the IH denim I own the fit on these after a taper & hot wash is absolutely perfect.
At the start of the stay-at-home order I started reading (mostly laughing) thru the 666 XHS thread and the fact that my size was in stock made me pull the trigger. It also helped with the handling and initial try on of these bad boys as nothing about the heavy, cardboard-like feel and buttoning experience was a surprise. Can’t wait to see how these do in the field, as of now they’re my evening dog walking denim.

Well done Rox. They look predictably brilliant and are made of the greatest denim on earth.
-
Hell of a difference in the before and after shots. They look fantastic.
-
Hi Rox - what temperature did you do the hot wash at? Was it a soak or machine wash?
Jeans look great!

@Thor clearly asks Rox about how she washed and dried here the 777-XHS but perhaps my 2 cents about shrinkage and how that went down. In my case the pair are 634-XHS but I'm figuring it is the same fabric (could be mistaken?). I've lost a ton of weight (thank the gods) and I'm banking on not gaining it back so I washed HOT in the machine on a quick cycle of 15 minutes. Hot means very hot. Then (HERESY INCOMING) I put them in the dryer for a solid 30 minutes on HOT because I figured I really was trying to shrink them and I was willing to suffer any consequences–-I would not put jeans that I wasn't experimenting with in the dryer! I got results very much like Rox. About 1" in the waist that I think will more than likely stretch back and less than an inch in the leg. The rest I haven't measured. Next move for me will either be taking them in or selling them. This is gonna get expensive. Dang.

Heat, water and agitation are the key elements for shrinking.
The more you have of each the more shrinkage you will get.
However, there is a finite amount of shrinkage in a cotton fabric so a point will come when you can nuke your jeans in a cement mixer full of bricks and boiling water and you won’t get any more shrinkage.
With XHS ( @profdbrk you are correct in assuming anything with the XHS suffix is the same fabric), that finite point is a lot closer than with loomstate denim because they are already sanforised a little. With 21oz and OD denim that finite point was reached and breached before you bought them.
In the case if XHS, and in my experience, a hot (60C) soak followed by a machine wash (40C) on low spin, and air dry, is enough to get all the shrinkage out. Tumble drying is killing ants with A-bombs.

@neph93, this ^^^was extremely helpful. I'm a University Professor so killing ants with a-bombs is just called my day job. Does the 14-2 fabric have much shrinkage in it? <–-does this belong in another thread?
