Voluntary in more ways than one, I’m not even sure if the land manager (in this case the US Forest Service) even knows that this trail exists… however, the local ethos is that the trail users do the work to maintain a trail. So I’m not an “official” volunteer. Just doing my small part! I actually find cutting downed trees and trail maintenance to be quite satisfying work. Really enjoy doing it.
