IH-888-UHR - Indigo UHR 21/23oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut

Mine are coming along nicely, though I regretted the machine wash they got…
Owned them for a year, due to the hot weather in China I probably wore them for 4 full months of that. And I wore them after only a shower and fairly brief soak! (yes, I must be mad, these things were brutal!). Washed them at 30 in a front loading washing machine and got some weird fade marks that I can only think were caused by being rammed into the machine, sadly. Having taken them from stiffer than cardboard to wearable I kinda wish I dragged out the wear even longer.
Do you guys use even low spin on your jeans? Just take them out weighing about 20lbs with all the water still soaked in? Oh, and do you fold your jeans when you wash them or just shove them in like regular clothing. My machine didn't like the low agitation setting and couldn't so much as even flip the beasts over... :o

The instructions for getting the shrinkage out of UHR is soak followed by warm wash at low spin. That is partially to avoid the marbling and abrasion lines you got.
I've had two accidents with IH gear, one with a pair of XHS that my then 18 month year projectile-vomited on. They were washed quickly and violently and messy lines resulted. The solution was to use them to build a containing wall the following spring. They got so beaten up that the unintentional marbling is now blended in. You can find that pair on WAYWT easily enough.
The other cock up was with a pair of charcoal chinos I assumed wouldn't be affected. I was wrong. As a result I now thoroughly soak and low spin all my denim/wabash/duck for the first two or three washes. After that either the fading and/or softened fabric means it isn't an issue anymore.
For those first "careful" washes I'll fold them and wash them alone, after that I stuff them in with whatever.

I've had similar bad experiences washing UHR denim, as well as cock-ups washing other brands' heavy weight denim. IMO, UHR doesn't wash well. UHR sheds indigo quicker than any other denim I've owned. The keys I've found for machine washing UHR, - well as any denim, really - is to turn it inside out and use the gentlest cycle posible. There will always be some spin between washing & rinsing cycles, so low spin has been ok for me. Creases are going to happen, it's just the nature of heavy denim + machine washing. Inside out avoids the creases abrading against the inside of the drum. I iron the creases out so they don't get weird fade lines with normal wearing. My 888NT's have about 8 months wear, 10+ washes with no signs of crease-fading. Lots of fading in high wear areas. Overall, lots of indigo loss and quite a bit of white marbling.

Not only are these jeans my favorite. But the patch looks pretty awesome too. I gave it a light coat of Wesco bee oil when I first got them and have done nothing else to it other than being sure I didn't let it soak under water for too long and only washing my jeans with cold water.

Excellent work on these.
+1
Lovely pair (as the actress said to the bishop). I think I’ve asked this before but what is your washing routine? Thanks gents. Apart from the initial shrinking-to-fit, I washed these twice in my machine but got some streaking to show for it in spite of using a non-spin program. Handwashed them in a tub several times since, so no more streaking… but I just feel like they don’t clean up as much as they would from a machine wash...
