IHJ-75-BLK - Primaloft Mountain Parka

How does this jacket compare to a (type B3) shearling jacket in terms of warmth? Would love to hear the thoughts of someone who owned both jackets. I'm looking for a jacket that is lighter than my B3 and warmer. Basically, I'm looking for something that would keep me toasty below 0°C with a Thermal over a T-Shirt or even only a T-Shirt.

I don’t own both, but I can attest to just how crazy comfortable and WARM the MTN Parka is.
I’ve been wearing it here in Canada a lot lately. We had a little cold snap (-8 C which is nothing really lol) and all I wore under it was a tee shirt. I took the pup for an about a 10 km walk and I was so toasty I actually had to undo the top button and zip because I was heating up.
The rest of the week we’ve seen a miserable rain, snow extremely damp sort of conditions. Hovering right around the freezing mark, and I wear the jacket the same with just a tee. It’s WATER PROOF folks!
For the first time in a long time, I’m looking forward to minus 25c just to see what this thing is like with a UHF or sweater underneath lol.

@Brandrea Thank you for sharing your experience! Damn, that does sound like quite the attestation of the warmth and functionality of this jacket. Now I'm really starting to itch to get one...
@Alex Any idea when the next restock will be particularly for size small? Also will it be restocked in different colors? Finally: Is Haraki planning on updating this jacket in any way any time soon?

If you’re looking for warmth, you’ve come to the right place! As parkas go, it also looks good too! Super warm without the bulk of alot of other fashion brands IMO.

No restock until FW24 at the earliest, though I haven’t seen the full collection yet so no guarantees that it will return nor can I answer.m your other questions. There are smalls in Japan, let me know if you’d like one.

@Alex Thank you for the super quick reply! I'll let you know!

Just to add … I picked up one of this this season and I have to say, it’s the warmest most functional winter jacket I’ve ever owned.
Today, it is - 30C with the wind chill and I went about with my normal 6 km hike. I wore a IH tee shirt, and this parka as my top layer. That’s it. I was toasty warm (admittedly I run a but warm).
Just thought I’d share, in case anyone reading has doubts about how incredibly warm this thing is.

Interesting to know: Haraki-san actually suggests wearing Primaloft directly over a short- or long-sleeved T-Shirt to achieve optimal heat-retention. So your experience matches pretty well with his suggestion. I'm willing to try doing the same with my IHJ-79 sometime and coming from that which is already very functional, I can only imagine how much warmer the IHJ-75 must be
-
@cityofdelusion I wore a UHF under the jacket yesterday and after about 10 minutes into my hike, I was burning up lol.
-
@Brandrea Thanks Brian! At the moment its my most versatile jacket. The temperature range that it covers is unrivaled compared to everything else that IH or many top outdoor brands have to offer.
One more thing about the humidity control. Please try it with woolen base layer...
Its almost unbelievable how well it will transfer the sweat outside the jacket given how well insulated it is.
Here is my top base layer choice - https://woolpower.se/en/shop/produkt/crewneck-200/
Originally made for Swedish military
60% Merino wool
25% Polyester
13% Polyamide
2% Elastane
And You can wash it in 60 degrees C! -
I decided late last winter to get one of these, but of course, by then there were none to be had. I grabbed one this time around and finally had some bitter cold weather to test it out. It's amazingly warm without the need for massive layers underneath, but it's still not overly bulky. The zipper was a little sticky, but some zipper lube has helped. It's an investment, but so far the performance is impressive.

@Karol thanks so much for that link, appreciated!
Yes, at times I find I’m cooking in this jacket … but with temps here in the negative C low teens, high 20’s, I’m certainly not complaining!
Sounds like this layer you wear helps with the heat transfer. Sometimes my sleeves get “wet” feeling when I just wear a tee.

@Brandrea woolen base layer will help in heat and especially moisture transfer. I love all my cotton stuff (the thicker the better) but the reality is that 100% cotton is a terrible idea when it comes to physical activity. It simply does not dry quick enough and the moisture is building up, and when you take a break it starts to deprive the body from heat. With enough time and negative temperature = hypothermia.
