The Iron Heart Forum Ten Year Anniversary Party Week End…

Wow Giles, sounds like a great party! We are coming to the UK this summer (from Japan), but in August unfortunately. However we are planning to pop down to Gosport to say hello to the gang. The 10% discount is tempting, too! If I were coming to the party I would suggest a swift half in the Anglesey before the BBQ! My sister was a barmaid in the Green Dragon at Rowner one summer in the 1970s, I wonder if that pub is still there. Anyway, I'm sure a splendid time is guaranteed for all! Cheers!

Hmm, this sounds fun, and I can fly directly to London without too bad of a trip over via bus. Perhaps this is something I'll need to attend.

OK G, let's go to the Village Home in Alverstoke instead!

Hi everyone!!! Any advice for accommodation?
II coming from NorthamptonSpring Gardens guesthouse and apartments is nearby but I suspect that maybe full by now. There is also a Premier Inn a solid walk or short bus ride away. Otherwise you can try AirBnb.
I've also stayed across the water in Portsmouth. There are guesthouses and B+B's very close to the ferry. The journey time on the ferry is only 3min and then it's a 10min walk to IHHQ so it's really quite a good solution. The only downside I experienced is that if you're needing to get back over the water after midnight then the night ferry is a little less regular and there may be a wait.

Last time I was in the Village Home was in 2007, when we were back in the UK for a month. I haven't lived in Alverstoke since 1986 but I am glad that the pub hasn't changed since then.

Thanks all of you who have signed up so far to join us for the party weekend!
Several people have been asking here and via email about local accommodation - it's always a challenge. The choices are to find a hotel or B&B in Gosport (the best of a pretty mediocre bunch are already sold out) or a hotel/B&B in Portsmouth as close as possible to the ferry meaning an easy journey over to us. You can easily check availability on sites such as Trivago, Booking.com etc. and I really recommend booking ASAP.
In addition, I am speaking to a friend who manages some crew accommodation for local yachting teams, usually apartments or houses with bedrooms and shared bathroom(s) and kitchen. No guarantee I can get somewhere, but if you're interested in taking a room, please let me know your exact dates and how many of you. Obviously I won't commit to anything until I know pricing and what the property looks like.

^in saying that, i'm afraid i can't commit till june at the earliest…

Regarding accommodation, there is a crew house available - Bury Villa - it's a big old house, looks nice from the photos with big kitchen, 6 large bedrooms with a total of 12 beds, and 5 bathrooms.
However it's not cheap, the price for 2 nights (special mate's rate for me) is £1,550 which works out to £258 per room (£129 per night) or £129 each for 2 nights if folks are prepared to share a room (£65 per night). Although the location is quite good (about 15-20 mins walk from us) I do think this is pricey and am sure better deals could be found individually, the Premier Inn is currently quoting £161.50 for 2 nights (13th/14th Sept) which is considerably less for a private room than Bury Villa.
Sorry not to have better news, but I will keep researching…

Sale of house pending (hoping this won’t conflict with moving date)
