When Giles and Paula met Hot Ingrid (and the rest of the Neph Squad).
-
These last few days I’ve had the distinct pleasure of entertaining the Padmore’s up the cabin in northern Norway!
It’s been planned for a while and I’ve really been looking forward to it. Here is some documentation of the fun and games…
Shrimp party the first evening in 20C arctic sunshine.
The next day @Madame Buttonfly and Ingrid did lunch while Giles myself and the eldest small Neph went on a four hour guided fishing expedition.
Our vessel:
Nice day for it:
An expectant @Giles on the way out to sea:
After four hours of fishing in some of the most fecund fishing waters in the whole world we had an amazing…. single fish. One moonfish at about 3kg to be precise.
Not the 10kg coalfish, 15kg cod or 50kg halibut we’d been hoping for. The real bummer was the the guest of honour didn’t get a single bite …. still it was great out on the water and a good day was had.
We made the most of it though and took care of the nature’s bounty. Back at the cabin Giles did the honours:
Afterwards I prepared the filets:
And something to go with them:
While the ladies and Giles waited expectantly in the evening sun…
After dinner it all got a bit redneck…
And that was day one…

Ahem, about last night… ???
Anyhooo… day two started in glorious sunshine and we went for a walk up a nearby hill that gives some great views. On the way up:
At the top…
Then on to a beach up the road. But first, lunch:
Burgers with a view, later that evening:
And that was day two.

On the last day we had time for a fishing trip to Saltstraumen, a channel between two fjords that features the worlds strongest maelstrøm. It was a chance for Giles not to leave Norway without catching anything (and me to keep my job as mod :D). It went rather well…
During our second hour long session, the current went from 0-60 in no time as the tidal maelstrom did its thing. The water was suddenly churning and teeming with life. Giles bagged eight coalfish ranging from approximately 6-10kg. Beautiful creatures. We released all of them back into the sea. It was quite an experience.
After a great few days we had to say goodbye. It was a shame, but I’m very happy I’ll be seeing them both again, (along with a load of forum people, I hope) at the 10th anniversary party in Gosport next month.

Side note: I always assumed "Hot Ingrid" was a random moniker… I was wrong! Good on ya, Reub!!!
As they say in (American) football- he outkicked his coverage on that one.
It's always nice to see good people having a fun time.

Or as we say in the uk…He's punching well above his weight

weather looks great. seems like great fun and a good holiday. always thought it'd be rare to have sun up in norway..
Is that what we could call «patina» on the fondled areas?[emoji15]
also, yes. although i prefer to use the term "seen some mileage.."

There was a lot of fishing, that usually seems to help with the smiling.
