I think that it's worth noting that synthetics are largely outperforming down in most ways at this point (though not in weigh yet, which is something you asked about)….
Weight wise, it's not that heavy. As mentioned, synthetic currently requires a little more weight for the same warmth than down
I would differ with you slightly. Down is better for insulation per cubic volume as well as for weight–so the advantages are efficiency per weight AND per volume, if it is important to minimize weight, to be able to pack something down, or to maintain a slimmer profile.
Synthetic is better when wet and easier to care for. It also usually seems less expensive and there is less animal cruelty involved.
High fill power down is still king of insulation efficiency by weight and volume, unless you get it wet--if your usage has that risk, avoid it.

Any restocks coming?

Hey y’all
I have one of these in black and it is absolutely amazing. Recently wore it through a blizzard up in Truckee, California while trying to clear the roads and it kept me warm and toasty. I just wanted to drop a note that there is currently a khaki one in large on grailed for 500. It isn’t mine nor do I know who’s selling it. Large is out of stock here so just thought I’d let yous guys know. let me know if I’m stepping on toes, posting in the wrong place, or being a dick.
Thanks -
Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to clean some staining on the outside of this jacket? thanks!
-
@Alex - any tips on washing these? not sure how to care for this beast...cheers!
-
@Inorganic Have you tried spot cleaning it with water and a little soap? With it being waterproof, I would doubt that a stain would permeate the fabric.
-
@Inorganic This is the info from the Pertex website: https://pertex.com/care-repair/
-
Hey @goosehd - no I haven't tried anything yet - I tend not to experiment with my IH pieces to avoid buggering something up (even though they are clearly capable of taking a beating).
good point about the stain likely not permeating the fabric. what about indigo? does that ever wash out? I would assume so because it bleeds out of the original garments...
-
@Inorganic To be honest, I really don't know. The indigo (in my mind) would be like any other stain (surface only) and should be able to wash out.
When in doubt, I always test wash a spot that is not really visible to see how it reacts.
-
@Inorganic +1 on spot cleaning for sure.
I have just translated the care label and we are looking at hand wash only in 40c heat max and line dry and do not not anything else, no machine washing, no bleach, no tumble and no iron.
Hope this helps!

this is very helpful - thank you for taking the time to decipher the care label.

Just pulled the trigger on an XL khaki … super excited and ready to brave the Canadian winter
-

It’s been too warm to wear it here yet … it’s been on a hanger since it arrived.
Well that’s not exactly true … I try it on a bunch just because it’s so awesome!
I’ll try to post up a picture here soon.
FWIW, I’m 6’2” 180 “bs and went with an XL. I love how it fits.

@Brandrea sidenote: smart idea with pool noodles and giving those narrow hangers more girth - def. going to be stealing this idea.

We finally had a miserable, cold, drizzly, WINDY day here in Canada and I had the opportunity to wear this jacket.
It performed flawlessly, and I was toasty warm with just a tee shirt underneath.
I can’t decide if I should take this jacket or my N1 to Switzerland for the Christmas holidays ….
