IH-888S-SBG - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise SBG
-
Hi there. The 21oz streches in the pressure areas. Hard to tell from the picture but the fit looks pretty good to me. Dont hey stay on your waist right wirhout dropping or sagging? Gow much room.you have on the thigh?
-
Hi - thanks. Yes thigh is about perfect (not tight or loose, just slightly hugging) and they don't drop or sag. I'd say the fit currently is good but that's before any stretching. I wouldn't say waist is tight currently. With the 33 I'd definitely have to stretch into the right fit but not sure if that's a better answer.
-
Depends how you like your jeans to fit. In.the first picture looks like you can go to 33 and get them to look like that with wear. Usually the common advice that you will get is to start on the slightly snug side and stretch them with wear.
-
After few days of wear I can already tell the SBG doesn’t stretch the same way compared to the „normal“ 21oz which almost instantly loosens up with the very first wears. Happy I went with a W35 in the SBG compared to my W34 888s.
-
I agree with @yannis . They don't look bad as-is at all, and I've never had a pair of IH stretch so much that they became unflattering/unwearable, rather just a tad too big for my liking but still manageable. But yep, I bet you could go a size down if what you're after is a real trim but comfortable fit. But I'll also agree with @weftyarn that the SBG doesn't seem to stretch as much as the regular 21oz.
-
Yup, also agree with @popvulture that you may be able to make a 33 work but the question is how much comfort you’re willing to give up for that until you reach the desired stretch.
With the 34, how far away from you, if at all, can you pull away the closed top button? I see you’re able to tuck a tee, would you be able to tuck a UHF too? That would probably be a red flag for me, unless you’re planning to always tuck something.
-
@weftyarn I can pull away about an inch right at button. Not sure a UHF would tuck in (don't have one) but a thinner button down without much problem.
Ok might need to suck it up and get the 33 and see if it seems feasible to break in!

@natefreezy another factor to consider is if you soak/ wash them before wearing. They will tighten up a bit and probably get you to that snugger feel you’re looking for. Then they will stretch still…but like others have said, they won’t just stretch to max stretch. They will only stretch to the pressure point your body pushes them to….up to 1-1.25” beyond waist measurement before wash(maybe a bit more with a lot of pressure)
I wore my SBGs all summer and they did stretch. Maybe not quite as fast as regular 21oz…but they will stretch. It didn’t take all summer for them to stretch either. I’d say with daily wear they will stretch within a couple weeks.
-
@natefreezy bro, those look good on you! Gonna stretch to where they need to be after few wears, when they get little loose get a belt on that thing til
Its time to wash then see those fades!!! -
I like my 888 as slim as can be (for an 888), both of mine have stretched over 1.5" to be comfortable from a tight-but-not-uncomfortable waist, which is the tightest spot on me. It only took a couple days to 'max out' both of them. They definitely hug the body after a hot soak, but they're super comfy afterwards and the waist is not restrictive at all. Love this cut.
-
Thanks all, I'm going to get the 33s and then will have both to compare and make a call.
What's the advantage of an initial soak with these vs. just wearing (and washing down the road)?
-
@natefreezy it's not necessary because they're once-washed already, but I always hot soak to remove any additional shrinkage and then wear them for a little while they're still damp to form them to my body. I know it's weird and my wife thinks i'm crazy, but it works for me to dial in the fit.
-
@WhiskeySandwich someone should make a wife’s version of the forum where our ladies can vent and laugh at all the absurd behaviors we display. I used to be kinda shy about all the photos of myself wearing jeans in my phone, or the rolling about on the ground to get tight jeans buttoned, or the putting on wet denims and walking around like Frankenstein. Nowadays, that’s just normal in our house haha
-
@Mizmazzle LMAO, right?! the womens do much stranger things with their clothes i think. I do my weird things in the name of comfort usually, like obsessively measuring shirts and pants, and soaking clothes, but she sacrifices comfort for style. To each their own, as long as we can make fun of each other for it! Ultimately - everyone is a weirdo in their own way.
-
Creases set. Man this fabric is comfy…
-
Haha exactly what happens in our house @Mizmazzle @WhiskeySandwich
I think my favorite is when she sees me pull out the Edding to note the wear days on the inside of my pocket bags. The face she made when I told her about it first was absolutely hilarious!
On another note, here’s a not so scientific but really interesting proof to what we were discussing earlier regarding the sizing / stretch.
What you see is my worn down 34 888s five wear days after the last wash and the fresh 35 888 SBG, technically also five wear days after their last wash.
The edges of the waist just match perfectly…
Edit:
Both jeans are now at a perfect 90cm (35.4 Inches) -
Hahaha man, I feel all of y'all on that — I think the thing my girlfriend makes fun of me for the most is "gah everything you wear is so HEAVY and grrrrrrrrr (usually makes some kind of mannish bro-face)." Tbh she's right, but as I mentioned, I'm just used to it — even wearing SBG felt way light after so much XHS. "Do I even have pants on? Better check."

Dis go here?
I've never owned a pair of the 21oz fabric, but if it is anything like the 21oz SGB I get all the all the buzz is about. The fabric is amazing and comfy out of the bag. I can tell this is going to be a long haul denim, definitely in it for the next two years or more.
I missed out on the 32s so I size up to a 33. It is a little baggier than I have been wearing for some years now but I will say it is nice to be able to get out of my jeans without my wife's help.
