@twotouches if that’s regular 21oz selvedge, you won’t get any meaningful shrinkage from soaking, or even washing and drying. If your thighs can take it, consider sizing down. That is, if the waist really bugs you. From the pics you posted, the fit looks pretty good to me. But 21oz denim will do nothing but stretch.
-
@twotouches I usually have to go a size down for 888 because they sit higher up on more your natural waist vs hips, like lots (most) jeans do. Might explain the discrepancies compared to the Onis etc but tbh measurements from size to size among selvedge companies can be pretty wildly different. The usual Iron Heart best course is to just always follow the current chart on everything, even for things you’ve bought before.
They look good in the pics but that’s a lot of looseness in the waist. Like @sabergirl said, they’ll stretch quite a bit. A soak might tighten them up a little, but they’ll stretch pretty immediately back to where they are now, and eventually more.

If you are on, or about the weight you should be for your height, then your waist will be smaller than your hips. Thus the higher the rise, the smaller waisted jean you will need.
As has been said above, basically ignore tag sizes they are often mythical (I have seen a pair of Diesel jeans tagged at 34, measure 37), and do what we suggest:
Some extrapolation may be required, if so reach out to shop@ironheart.co.uk.

Help dating a second hand IH N-1
Hi all,
First post here so hello and apologies if this isn’t the right sub to ask!
I’ve just bought an N1 jacket second hand from Japan and wondered if any one of you kind folk could put a rough date on it? I’m not sure how to look back at previous models and their subsequent release dates.
Concerning the condition, the listing description said “There are a lot of signs of wear such as dirt marks fading pillings”
Which I thought was a bit harsh as it looks on pretty good Nick to me ️ either way I can’t wait to get it!

@goosehd I think the biggest difference would be hard to figure out. There was the addition of the extra windproof liner in between the wool and outer shell a few years back.
-
@Matt haha yes the glued on badges will be coming off but I agree it does look good

Our N1's have always had an additional windproof liner. We just did not brag about it in the early days because H thought it unimportant to point out......

@Giles I’ll be over here adding incorrect info to the internet. Basically everything else you find is true.

At the risk of asking a too general question: Are the newer Iron Heart products (jeans, knits and sweats, jackets etc.) of an obviously superior construction and material quality than the earlier products?
-
Most of the fabrics will be effectively the same, there may be some tweaks as we try to improve, and there may be subtle variances as raw materials become unavailable and we have to source alternatives.
Regarding cut and constructional detail, Haraki is always tweaking/trying to improve, but typically a change will result in the lot number changing.
Whether those tweaks are good or bad is really in the eye of the beholder, because Haraki rarely considers what other people will like, just what he thinks is best for him personally.

@Giles Perfect, thank you.
-
@JoshC or for those of you that have hemmed your OD, do you chainstitch with a black or yellow thread?
-
@flannel-slut my 21oz OD were hemmed with the golden yellow thread by IH.
