After being told I was going to move my classroom to the new wing that was built at my school this year, I was told that I was actually staying in my "old" room. Well, today that changed and I will be moving to a brand new classroom next year. I am super excited as I did not know this this morning. I am currently across from the boy's bathroom and I fecking hate the daily nonsense that goes on in between classes. The new wing is more isolated and only 6th graders occupying it. I am teaching only 6th grade next year too which is new to me, I usually teach two grades each year. That means less prep work. So stoked as I am finishing my tenth year here and will start my second decade as an educator in a brand new environment.

@mclaincausey @deanclean Giles is correct. Day Skipper is the lowest certificate by the Royal Yachting Association that allows you to charter a yacht and sail it in coastal waters in daytime. If you want to operate VHF equipment, you will also need to pass the SRC - Short Range Certificate

Very cool. Sounds like a great adventure.

@deanclean totally. One of my friends from school is a sailing instructor and skipper, who has gone on a few sailing trips with me and some other friends over the years. We sailed from Tenerife to Fuerteventura and back last November, which rekindled my desire to get my license, too. Just incredible, sailing at night with nothing around you except the wind in the sails and the waves breaking against the hull.

@Oaktavia congrats man!! I’m in the same boat (to quote other random announcements) as you.
After 13 years teaching elementary I’m moving to a new building, at a new level (middle school) in a new role. In this field, change is critical to keep the inspiration alive!!All the best moving forward doggie!!

OK, brilliant emoji @mclaincausey

@mclaincausey unsurprisingly I both got it and loved it. The emoji is inspired.

@Mizmazzle thanks homie and congratulations again back to you. Looking forward to chatting about our career shifts in the near future.
-
@Oaktavia awesome to hear! Wish you all of the best

@Oaktavia while not ideal it sounds, perhaps the administration put you near the bathroom as a deterring force for the boys? Without knowing you, if you were my teacher, I probably would not fuck around and find out as a 6th grader.

I was placed there as it was the only art room open at the time. The 6th graders are mostly on good behavior, but its the 8th grade boys who cause the biggest disruption issues. Especially this time of year with 4 weeks left until summer break.

I was just at the local garden decor store buying my mom a lawn art piece for Mother’s Day. She has a regular outdoor sculpture museum going on in her garden.
One of the workers comes up and says, “Cool jeans…I love the wash on them!”
My eyes perked up, but then I simply said, “Thanks!!”

One of the things that we did not learn, but I put into practice today, is what to do when you are 15 miles offshore and you're knees interfere with the engine ignition switches and both engines "fail".....
Would you consider installing a sprung transparent plastic U-shaped cover over the switches to avoid that same “knee” accident in the future?

@mclaincausey I still don’t get the lewd joke. Please explain it to me or clue me in on where to find an emoji dictionary.
