IHV-22 - Alpaca Lined Whipcord N1 Vest - Olive, Navy, Grey & Khaki
-
For what it’s worth, I use XL in UHF’s and have the jacket in XL. I layer it over a heavy tee and a flannel in mid-winter. If I wanted to wear it over just a shirt or just a henley I’d need to size down one.
this is why sizing is tricky for me. If I were to rely on IH's fit chart, which by all accounts is fairly accurate, then a size large would work best for me since those measurements are pretty close to an existing vest I own. But anecdotally, some of you size down and some of you go with your UHF size. I would only be wearing the vest with flannels as a layering piece. As for the IHM-14, the fit guide at Self Edge is similar to IH's guide so I think sizing down would be wise. If the IHV-22 was cut exactly like the IHM-14 then i'd likely be a medium but it looks like they're sized differently - ie. IHM-14 med = IHV-22 large.

I feel your pain. Measurements are reliable and no one tries harder than the stubborn crew to get it right, but they don’t tell the whole story. Cut and thickness of fabric play a big part.
Alex’s original point is important. It’s all about how you are going to wear these items. If you want to wear the vest over leathers then go standard size if you want to wear it over regular tops then down one. That would be my advice. Worst case, shell out for two and get a refund.

This is a really beautiful vest, which I am considering (along with the C-3 or RMC Alpaca Vest) buying, but I am not so convinced with the measurements. What borders me is the short length of the back. For a serious winter layering piece I personally would like it to be longer. If I look at the fit picks the opening looks a bit on the wide side too. I really would like to know how far down, temperature wise, you are wearing them comfortable.
For that reason I prefer the cut from the C-3 vest, but here I would need a additional scarf.
Would be nice if someone shares their experience!

I owned a c-3 vest, and I feel it was more warm than my 22, and definitely longer in the back, like you desire. As far as warmth goes, you're really only limited by how you size on them… I sized both of mine to be worn or thick shirts (This would limit extreme cold weather wear), but many other people size them to fit over leather coats/jackets.
Also, because the C-3 vests are made to order (I believe), you could order one with a collar, and get rid of the additional scarf!

Thanks UnTucked!
I was looking at a size S with the IHV-22, this would let me still layer with UHF's and warm woollen Sweater. I was looking at a temperature range between +5° and -10°C.
Wearing the Vest over a Jacket isn't a option for me, since I am with 1.73m/5.7ft a relatively short guy. Just makes me look as wide as high!
With my IHSW-23 Hoodie and a RMC Buco Racing Vest in size 40, I can get with a medium active level, comfortable down to -5°C.
Hmm, C-3 with collar…now you made my head working/spinning around!

This vest in khaki is calling my name. I’m a big vest guy and was about to pick up a patagucci down sweater, as that’s been my go to for years. Having a fairly IH exclusive closet and wearing a lot of dark denim tops lately, I feel like this piece could be one of those staples I use all winter. I need to better understand my sizing now though. All the conversation happening here has been very helpful.

Is Self Edge getting any of these vests? I may go try some on this weekend. I know they have the jacket in XL and XXL, so I may have to go try them on. Trying to really understand my new sizing post weight loss.

@joesaintjohn After getting my hands on the khaki deck jacket last winter (was my “go to” all season), I knew I had to have the vest in khaki too (although that grey is sick AF too 8)). When my size was available I scooped it up and it should be here tomorrow. I know it’s gonna get a ton of use this season.
I’m a XXL in flannels and ordered a XXL for this vest. I got my hands on a XXXL because I thought it would be good for layering under, but that was just a bit too big.
As it’s been mentioned, sizing is all about how you wear it, although you’ve been rocking IH way longer than me so you already know that. That being said, I can completely relate with post weight loss fitting issues. You’ve practically got a whole new body! When in doubt I’ve also just bought a couple sizes and send one back that didn’t work out.
Good luck dude. I think you’re gonna look killer in one of these!

me too man…the lighter one is good too, but when I found out this year's would be the darker brown that were attached with the grey color, I was pretty stoked.
I actually have you to thank for this. If I didn't buy your deck jacket last year (which I work all winter and will again this year), I wouldn't have fallen in love with the whipcord outerwear

I’m still glad you got the N1 from me - makes me happy it’s been put to such good use. Maybe I’ll snag my size one day…

I need some sizing help. The XXXL feels too big.
The XXL fits much better, but I’m trying to decide if I should size down. Comments please:
